King Charles Waves to Well-Wishers as He’s Seen for First Time Since Leaving the Hospital

King Charles is recovering.

The king, 75, greeted well-wishers outside St Mary Magdalene Church near Sandringham on Sunday with a cheerful wave as he was seen for the first time since leaving hospital last Monday.

A week after surgery for an enlarged prostate, he was accompanied by his wife, Queen Camilla, as they both went to Sunday services near their home in Norfolk, England. The royals also posed for pictures with the Reverend Canon Dr Paul Williams, Rector of Sandringham.

While King Charles has been largely out of sight due to his condition – which was first revealed on January 17 – Queen Camilla, 76, has been carrying out a series of solo royal engagements.

The pair’s appearance came after it was also revealed in a British newspaper The Sunday Times that King Charles has appointed a new aide-de-camp, Captain Kat Anderson, 33. The former Royal Artillery officer is the first woman to serve the British monarch in a key role and will be an aide to King Charles focused on foreign travel.

Tomorrow, February 6, is a moving date for King Charles and the royal family. It is the anniversary of the death of his grandfather George VI. – a moment always marked by the late Queen Elizabeth at Sandringham. George VI died on the estate in 1952, making his daughter Elizabeth the new monarch.

Queen Elizabeth died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland in September 2022, and King Charles immediately ascended the throne.

How Kate Middleton and King Charles surgery news differed from past royal statements about ‘personal’ matters

While King Charles recovers, Kate Middleton, 42, is also recovering from planned abdominal surgery, carried out at the same London hospital as her father-in-law, at her Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.

The Princess of Wales has not been seen in public since her operation almost three weeks ago and is not expected to return to royal duties until after Easter.
