Kishori Baral

Kishore Baral is an Indian actress known primarily for her work in Kannada films. She is best known for her role as Shah Rukh Khan’s mother “Kaveri Amma” in the Bollywood film Swades (2004).

Kishori Ballal was born in 1937 (he died at the age of 82) in Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka.

Family and caste

She married a Bharatanatyam dancer, N Sripathi Ballal, a Hindu from the Bunt community. N Sripathi Ballal was from Mangalore. The two got married in 1950.

Profession

Kishori Ballal and her husband studied acting from Dr. Siva Ram Karanth and Vysarya Ballal. Later, she worked in advertisements produced by “Durga Khote Productions”. In 1960, she made her debut in the Kannada film “Ivalentha Hendthi”. In 1970, she acted in many plays, which were later translated into Kannada as well.

She has acted in films in different languages ​​including Marathi, Kannada, Hindi, Tulu and Konkani. In her 15-year career, she has acted in more than 70 films. Some of her hit films include Ek Alag Mausam (2003), Quick Gun Murugun (2003), Ambari (2009), Kempe Gowda (2011), Bombay Mittai (2015) and Kahi (2016).

She is also known for her impressive performances in some Bollywood films like Swades (2004), Lafangey Parindey (2010) and Aiyyaa (2012).

She has acted in many television serials, including Amruthavarshini, which aired in 2012 and became one of the longest-running television serials in Kannada.

On February 18, 2020, she died of respiratory infection at Sevakshetra Hospital, Bengaluru.
