Kourtney Kardashian Is ‘Letting Go of Trying to Change’ Her Family — but Thinks They’d ‘Benefit from Therapy’

Kourtney Kardashian Barker is letting go of everything that is out of her control.

On Thursday in the season 4 finale The Kardashiansthe Poosh founder, 44, arrived at the Blink-182 concert in San Diego to support her husband Travis Barker alongside sister Khloé Kardashian and mother Kris Jenner.

While watching Travis prepare for the upcoming gig, Kourtney gave her family members a little insight into one of the drummer’s pre-show rituals, which includes downing a large iced coffee from Dunkin’.

When Kourtney noticed Kris looking at the drink out of the corner of her eye, she joked, “Mommy’s going to manage a little bit [the coffee]!” The mum, 68, later proved her eldest daughter right when she pointed to his mug mid-conversation.

“She assumes it’s yours,” Khloé said before Kris explained, “We’re just very controlling.”

“My mom has a problem,” Kourtney added. “He can’t just let you drink your coffee and find it yourself like he has to let you know your coffee is there.”

In a conversation in front of the cameras, the mother of four children opened up about the issue of giving up control when it comes to trying to change family members and their habits.

“I know people in my family could benefit from therapy, but I give up trying to change other people and accept everyone for who they are,” she admitted. “This is me, this is my journey. This is you and this is your journey and just accept it, but also live your life the way I want.”

Earlier in the episode, Kourtney mentioned Kris’ tendency to be a “massive control freak” and had a family discussion about how that came to be.

“What is it about you that makes you need to be so controlling?” Kourtney asked as she sat next to Kris and Khloé. “Do you ever wonder about yourself why you control yourself so much?”

Khloé suggested that Kourtney “accept” the way her mother is, noting that Kris’ habits would be especially hard to break in her old age.

“God bless Kourtney for trying to have a therapy session, and God bless my mom because she definitely isn’t,” Khloé joked in the confessional.

As the conversation progressed, Kourtney opened up about her journey in therapy and shared how her sessions changed her way of thinking and introduced the idea of generational trauma. She explained how trauma can be transmitted from mother to daughter because mothers carry daughters in the womb.

“I didn’t start the journey of self-awareness knowing what I was doing,” she continued in the conversation in front of the cameras. “I started therapy through a toxic relationship and then learned so much about myself, about my family, about why I do certain things, about our childhood wounds, about how they show up in intimate relationships, generational trauma.”

Kourtney clarified to Khloé, “It’s like their traumas are being carried over, but it’s within a lot of things that we have inside of us.”

When the conversation drifted a second time, Kourtney ended the conversation about therapy by telling her mom and sister, “Anyway, therapy isn’t for everyone.”
