KPAC Lalitha is an Indian actress who works mainly in the Malayalam film industry. She is also an accomplished theater artist. Her real name is Maheshwari Amma. KPAC Lalitha is the stage name she adopted after she started working at the KPAC (Kerala People’s Arts Club) theater in Kayamkulam, Kerala. In five years, she has done more than 550 Malayalam films. KPAC Lalitha won two National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress and four Kerala Film Awards. She is the recipient of the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award presented to her at the 2009 Southern Filmfare Awards. She served as the head of the Sangeetha Nataka Akademi in Kerala for five years. KPAC Lalitha is known for her notable roles in Malayalam films Shantham (2000), Life Is Beautiful (2000) and Valkannadi (2002). She died in February 2022 at the age of 73.

KPAC Lalitha belongs to Ramapuram near Kayamkulam. During her childhood, her parents wanted her to join dance classes, so they moved from Ramapuram to Changanassery. Her first dance teachers were Chellappan Pillai and Kalamandalam Gangadharan. At the age of ten, she began acting in plays and shows. She made her acting debut in the drama Geethayude Bali. Later, she joined KPAC (Kerala People’s Arts Club), a famous drama theater in Kerala. Shortly after joining the theater, her stage name was “Lalitha”. She then started working in Malayalam films, KPAC was the tag added before her name Lalitha to make it different from other Malayalam actresses “Lalitha”.

Her first film titled Koottukudumbam was released in 1969. The film is directed by KS Sethumadhavan. In 1978, KPAC Lalitha got married and put her acting career on hold, appearing in only a few films. In 1983, she resumed her acting career in the Malayalam film industry with the film “Kattathe Kilikkoodu” directed by her husband. Some of her popular films between 1986 and 2006 include Gajakesariyogam, Apporvam Chillar, Makkal Mahatmiyam, Shubha Yatra, My Dear Muthachan and Kannanum Polisum. Films such as Vadakku Nooki Yanthram (1989), Innathe Program (1991), Dasharatham (1989), Venkalam (1993), The Godfather (1991) and Amaram (1991) were popular for their Known for critically acclaimed performances. KPAC Lalitha passed away on February 22, 2022 at the age of 73 in Thrippunithura, Ernakulam, Kerala, India. She was in chronically poor health and was admitted to a local hospital in Kerala for treatment.

- KPAC Lalitha follows a non-vegetarian diet.
- Early in her career, she was asked to gain weight for a role at KPAC Theatre. KPAC Lalitha wanted to act, so she consulted a doctor to gain weight. Soon, the doctor gave her 16 injections. She followed a strict vegetarian diet and drank water, oxtail soup and raisins. Soaked in toddy, raw eggs in milk and cold rice porridge. She likes to eat Chyavanaprasam.
- According to media sources, KPAC Lalitha is the first child born to her parents five years after their marriage.
- In 1969, her first film salary was Rs. 1000.
- Her father once fainted during working hours while she was studying in Class VII. The doctor advised her father to resign and rest. KPAC Lalitha then decided to take on the family crisis and began acting in theater productions at the age of ten.
- Her son Sidharth chose to become a director soon after appearing in several Malayalam films. He is the director of the 2012 film Nidra, based on the 1984 film of the same name. The film was earlier written and directed by his father Bharathan.
- In 2010, KPAC Lalitha published her autobiography, Katha Thudarum (The Story Unfinished). In 2013, this autobiography won the Chelukkad Award.
