Warning: This article contains spoilers for a new Netflix show Nobody wants this.
What’s your fall style inspiration and why is it a cool podcast host? Probably because you’ve been drinking Nobody wants this and Joanne’s wardrobe is currently living free in your head right next to Adam Brody’s chin and toned forearms.
Kristen Bell’s Joanne nails the effortlessly cool Los Angeleno vibe in the Netflix hit, right down to her curated stack of gold jewelry, matching pilates kit, and that slight twist on her shoulder-length dirty blonde head (we’d die to catch a glimpse of her Net-a- Porter trolley). Her wardrobe is a fashion editor’s fever dream, and every episode is a master class in high-low dressing (ie. pairing a $390 Khaite Bambi belt with a $50 Abercrombie bodysuit).
This is a girl who knows what she likes and has the confidence to show off her torso in a Christopher Esber crop top at her boyfriend’s intramural basketball game. (Seriously, Joanne is doing the MOST for WAG style since Taylor Swift’s Kansas City debut.)

“Joanne was a really exciting character for us to design. She’s a multi-faceted woman,” costume designer Negar Ali Kline told Forbes about creating the wardrobe. “Things that wouldn’t normally make sense, Joanne pulls them off because she has an inherent sense of who she is and how she wants to present the world.”
And if there’s one moment on the show that really sums up Joanne’s je nais se quois, it’s her Bat Mitzvah-crashing dress. Joined by sister Morgan (played by the hilarious Justine Lupe), Joanne leans heavily on the shiksha label at Miriam’s “Big Apple” Bat Mitzvah wearing a form-fitting turquoise Alex Perry midi dress (on sale now!) for the latest episode. Morgan, who can’t be overshadowed by anyone, stands out in a sea of black dresses thanks to her white backless jumpsuit (take that, Bina!). The whole moment gives a lot of energy to Romy and Michele, which we think was totally the point.
Netflix; miteresis
Adam Brody has never been hotter than he is Nobody wants this. Let’s discuss
Not since Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino’s 1997 hit comedy have we had a blonde duo with more confidence and self-assurance. In a purposeful way Nobody wants this scene, Joanne and Morgan storm the dance floor in slow motion, their hair blowing in the breeze as Soulja Boy’s “Crank That” blares in the background. It’s an entry for the ages that seems connected to the theme of owning your own individuality, for which Romy and Michele were the poster (and Post-it!) women.

Dressed in their homespun pink and blue high school reunion dresses, the duo command the banquet hall to the tune of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” wearing the disapproving looks of their peers like a badge of honor.
in 2024 Nobody wants this certainly respects that same female energy and sisterly bond. If only Romy and Michelle had a podcast… (we bet their biggest fear is also a bad face lift).
Nobody Wants This, created by Erin Foster, is out now on Netflix.
