Krystal Keith ‘Shattered’ by the Death of ‘Hero’ Dad Toby Keith: ‘I’m Lucky I Got to Say Goodbye’

Krystal (38) posted a carousel of Toby’s photos on Instagram on Friday and said in the description that she was devastated by her father’s death.

“I’m devastated. As great as he was in his career, he was so much greater as a dad and husband and pop pop. He was my hero,” she wrote of Toby in the caption.

She then went on to outline why she was grateful for the time she spent with her father, who died of stomach cancer on Monday at the age of 62 after being diagnosed two and a half years ago.

Krystal followed in her father’s footsteps and pursued a career in country music before marrying and having two daughters.

“I’m so lucky to have had him and I’m so grateful he was able to walk me down the aisle and meet my babies. To have years of memories that travel the world as a family,” she wrote. “I’m blessed that I got to spend years traveling on the road and singing on stage with him. That I have mountains of videos and endless music tracks where I can watch him and hear his voice.”

Krystal added, “I’m happy I got to say goodbye and tell him what he meant to me.”

The “Daddy Dance with Me” singer said she was grateful there were so many other gifts for him that she hoped she would be able to appreciate one day.

“It came to [immense] an outpouring of love and segments of his memories that I hope to one day be able to watch and enjoy when I can. So many people and networks paying tribute to him is a reminder that he wasn’t just ours. He was worldly. He is a gift that we, as a family, could offer to the world and he did not waste our sacrificed time with him. He lived a hundred lives filled with achievements and impact on people’s lives.”

Krystal continued, “He did so much for people that no one knew about, not even us. He didn’t want recognition for good deeds, he just did them because his heart led him to do it or someone needed it.”

Near the end of her post, Krystal said that she will always try to honor Toby.

“The pain is so unbelievably deep and it feels like I’m literally heartbroken, but I know it wouldn’t hurt as much if we didn’t love him and he didn’t love us as deeply. He never made me wonder when he would be there for me,” she wrote.

“I love YOU even more dad. XO,” Krystal captioned her post.

Krystal is Toby’s second daughter with wife Tricia Lucus, after he adopted Lucus’ daughter Shelley from a previous relationship. The country singer and Lucus are also parents to son Stelen, 26, who paid tribute to his father on Thursday. Although the legal last name is the Covel family, Krystal is his only child who has adopted his stage (and middle) name, Keith.

She got into music after performing her father’s song “Mockingbird” in 2004, which they performed at the CMAs that year.

Krystal released her only studio album to date, whiskey and lace, in 2013

She wrote the aforementioned song, “Daddy Dance with Me”, especially for the father-daughter dance with Toby at her wedding to Andrew Sandubrae in 2010.

The couple have two daughters, Kirby and Hensley, who were pictured in her Instagram tribute spending time with Toby.
