Kuldeep Kumar is an Indian politician and a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He hit the headlines on February 20, 2024, when the Supreme Court declared him the winner of the Chandigarh mayoral election, overturning the unfair appointment of previous BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar to Chandigarh Mayor’s results.

Kuldeep Kumar Dhalor was born on Thursday, September 12, 1985 (age 38 years 2023) from Daddu Majra Colony, Chandigarh. His zodiac sign is Virgo. Before starting his political career, he worked as a sanitation worker (Safai Karamchari) in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. He was associated with the BJP as early as 2010. Kuldeep was a member of the SC morcha of the BJP but left the party to join the Congress. On May 30, 2017, Kuldeep was elected as the Chairman and Chairman of the Residents Welfare Association Committee Daddu Majira. He received 1,143 votes out of 3,023.
In 2020, he was appointed Chairman of the Management Committee of Valmiki Ashram at Dadu Majra.
In 2021, he joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Kuldeep Kumar won the 2021 Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections from Ward 26, defeating the BJP sitting MP and former mayor Rajesh Kalia. Thereafter, he was employed as Medical Officer, Health Department, Municipal Corporation. On January 30, 2024, AAP-Congress alliance candidate Kuldeep Kumar lost the Chandigarh mayoral election to Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Manoj Sonkar.
According to the election results, Sankar got 16 votes while Kuldeep got 12 out of 36 votes. The AAP has since claimed that returning officer Anil Masih unfairly declared eight votes invalid. The AAP challenged the outcome first in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and then in the Supreme Court. They showed videos purportedly showing election officials tampering with ballots. On February 20, 2024, the Supreme Council overturned the previous results of the Chandigarh mayoral election and declared Kuldeep Kumar as the new mayor.
Apart from politics, Kuldeep also runs a tent business and catering business with his brother in Dadumajira. He also works as a real estate dealer in Dadu Majra.

According to his affidavit in connection with the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Elections 2021, he was charged under Sections 147, 148, 149, 336 of the IPC and Sections 25-54-59, 27 of the Arms Act on April 5, 2015 in Malayalam. An FIR was registered against him in Loya police station in 1959.
Chandigarh Municipal Council adjourns general meeting
In 2023, eight AAP MPs, including Kuldeep Kumar, were suspended and forcibly ejected from the Chandigarh Municipal Assembly House meeting by law enforcers. The action was taken after lawmakers tried to harm MC officials and damaged House property. AAP MPs were outraged when Congress and BJP MPs asked them to apologize for calling them “thieves” and “corrupt elements” during a press conference. Addressing a press conference, AAP spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang and eight other AAP MPs accused the BJP and Congress of making money from the Dadu Majra dumpsite.
