Kusal Mendis is a Sri Lankan cricketer who captained many matches in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He was widely regarded as one of Sri Lanka’s best batsmen in the early 2020s.

Balapuwaduge Kusal Gimhan Mendis (popularly known as Kusal Mendis) was born on Thursday, February 2, 1995 in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka (age 28; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Aquarius. His first cricket coach was Jayalath Apoonsu, who passed away in November 2020.
He attended Prince of Wales College in Moratuwa, Colombo, where he played for the school team and later became a professional cricketer.

Kusal Mendis played for his school team Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa from 2010 to 2012 and for Sri Lanka Cricket Development 16s in 2011-12 Play for the following team.
In the 2013-14 season, Mendis played for The Rest, Moors Sports Club and Moors Sports Club Under-23. In the 2014-15 season, he played for Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club in the Sri Lanka Club Championship and Southgate in the Middlesex League. At about 5am on July 5, 2020, he hit a 74-year-old cyclist near the 13th Mile Post in Horethuduwa, Panadura. The man later died at Panadura Hospital; the victim was Go A La Capola resident who works as a bus conductor. Avishka Fernando, who was also in the Range Rover SUV when the accident occurred, was said to have struck the man and left him there for about 40 minutes before an ambulance arrived. According to reports, Mendis later surrendered at Panadura North Police Station and was subsequently arrested and released on bail on July 6, 2020 with a surety of 1 million Sri Lankan rupees.

Banned for one year
In July 2021, Kusal Mendis, Dhanushka Gunasiraka and Niroshan Dickwella were banned from international cricket for one year for breaching the bio-secure bubble during the England tour and domestic cricket for six months and fined a trio of Sri Lankan rupees £10 million. They were caught on camera wandering the streets of Durham before being sent back to Sri Lanka midway through the series. On January 7, 2022, the ban was lifted and he was allowed to participate in international cricket matches.
