Before taking to the dance floor, Umansky told Dancing with the Stars that the longtime couple had been “going through a tough year” and that he hoped the show could “take his mind off that.”
As Mauricio Umansky did his Dancing with the stars debut on Tuesday, his wife Kyle Richards was there to show her support despite their recent divorce.
Before taking to the dance floor with his partner Emma Slater, Umanksy reflected on the recent difficulties the pair faced in their opening package.
“I’m married to Kyle Richards,” he began. “We are going through a difficult year and I really hope for that Dancing with the stars I’ll take my mind off it and have fun.”
Umansky, 53, and Slater, 34, then performed a jive to OneRepublic’s “I Ain’t Worried.” After the dance number ended, the cameras panned to show Richards, 54, and their daughter Alexia happily reacting as they sat in the audience.

After the dance, co-host Julianne Hough asked Umansky about his family’s reaction to his jive. “Your family, how are they reacting to this now?” she asked.
“Oh, I think they like it. Did you like it down there?” he said, as applause rang out.
Umanksy and Slater scored 15/30.

PEOPLE broke the news of Umansky and Richards’ divorce in July. The couple – who have daughters Alexia, 27, Sophia, 23, and Portia, 15, as well as Farrah Brittany, 34, from Richards’ previous marriage – have been together for 27 years.
A source told PEOPLE that Umanksy and Richards “still live under the same roof” but “remain friendly as they figure out what’s next for them and their family.”

Following PEOPLE’s report, the reality stars jointly announced that “all claims regarding the divorce are false.” However, they admitted that they “had a rough year.”
“Most challenging in our marriage. But we both love and respect each other immensely,” they continued. “No one was wrong. While we are in the public eye, we ask that we be able to work through our issues privately. While it may be fun to speculate, please do not make up false stories to fit into a further broken narrative. Thank you for your love and support, Kyle & Mauricio.”
Umansky later said Party tonight that both “hang there”.
“We’re working on all our stuff, which everybody knows about, and we’re just doing it day by day,” he added. “We’re trying not to let the press affect us and all the social media and all the stuff that’s going on. So we’re trying to just ignore it and figure it out ourselves. I can tell you that we’re both happy.”
