Kylie Minogue Says Prince Recorded Lyrics She Wrote — but She Lost the Tape: ‘Don’t Know Where the Cassette Is’

There’s a Prince and Kylie Minogue collaboration — but it may never see the light of day.

During the interview in Friday’s episode Show Jennifer Hudsonthe Australian pop superstar recalled working with Prince after meeting him at one of his concerts, before revealing she had since lost track of the recording.

“I saw him perform in London in the early ’90s and went backstage and got to meet him,” Minogue, 55, told host Jennifer Hudson. “I said, ‘I’m working on an album. Do you want to—’ I don’t even know what I said. Something came out, and he beamed at me and invited me—not in that way or in any way—to go to him and go to Minneapolis and everything else.”

The “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” singer and Prince, who died at age 57 of a drug overdose in 2016, eventually tied the knot at his London hotel. “Everywhere has a studio,” she explained, noting that it has specially programmed instruments. “He’s like, ‘Oh, here’s the keyboard,’ and he’d hit different keys, and it’d be Prince samples.”

Prince was willing to work with Minogue. “He said, ‘So, do you have your lyrics?’ So I sent him some texts, and I don’t know if it was the next day or what. It must have been fast,” she recalled. “But a car comes to my apartment. The driver of the car brings a cassette with Prince singing on it. He wrote the song and recorded a demo of the song with my lyrics.”
