LaKeith Stanfield Says Marriage Has Changed Him ‘for the Better’: ‘It’s a Beautiful Thing’ (Exclusive)

LaKeith Stanfield loves married life!

The Atlanta actor, 32, spoke with PEOPLE at the film’s Los Angeles premiere Clarence book on Thursday, when he described his thoughts six months after announcing his marriage — and baby — to wife Kasmere Trice Stanfield.

As he now explained, his husband “absolutely” changed him. “A lot more for the better,” Stanfield said. “I mean, I feel like it’s something that calls you to be your best and highest whenever, wherever you can.”

“I just got my ring,” he added. “I carry it with me everywhere and I feel my wife’s presence everywhere. So it’s a really beautiful thing and I’m really, really grateful to have her.”

As for what he enjoys most about being a husband, Stanfield explained that living together is “a really beautiful thing.”

“Just a way that you can be partners and live together and explore and create together,” he said.

LaKeith Stanfield reveals he and Kasmere Trice are married — with a new baby! (Exclusive)

Back in July, LaKeith and Kasmere announced the marriage and baby news exclusively to PEOPLE, as the actor explained that life “completely changes” after becoming a parent.

The couple revealed the news of their engagement on Instagram in December 2022, shortly before they tied the knot privately and welcomed their toddler, whose name and gender they have yet to publicly announce.

LaKeith, who was already a father of two daughters when he welcomed the newest addition to his family, shared the news with PEOPLE in an effort to get the couple to “tell their own story.” “We are taking our family forward so we can inspire others,” he said at the time.

The couple met in Canada, where the actor was working at the time, and LaKeith later proposed during an island vacation around Kasmere’s birthday.

“All I ever tried to do in those crazy times, like when she was in labor, was to be a support system. That and figuring out how many pieces of ice I should give her,” he said at the time.

In his last role in the biblical comedy Book of Clarence, Stanfield he plays the title character who “risks everything to carve his own path to divine life,” according to the synopsis. He calls the role “a unique role” in a film written and directed by Jeymes Samuel.

“This was an arc and a story that I felt was universal, that everyone goes through wanting to feel like there’s someone in their life and going through the motions and trials and tribulations,” he explained to PEOPLE at the premiere.

“Coming away from the end of that feeling inspired, I thought it was a good message to leave people with,” he added.
