Lana Del Ray Reveals Why She Was Working at Waffle House in Viral Photo

Lana Del Rey’s stay at Waffle House was short-lived.

The singer has finally opened up about her internet-famous shift at Alabama Waffle House. She said The Hollywood Reporter that she never intended to work behind the counter at a chain restaurant, but after a week in town in Alabama and a few hours at a restaurant with her siblings, Del Rey decided to shake it up a bit.

“We were in the third class, and the servers asked, ‘Would you like some shirts?’ Del Rey told The Hollywood Reporter her visit to the Waffle House in Florence, Alabama. “Hell yes! We were delighted – she continued.

The Waffle House host posted a short clip of the “Summertime Sadness” singer on Facebook in July. The fan account also took to Instagram to share some shots of the singer making coffee and posing with fans.

After seeing Del Rey in a blue button-up chain uniform, many fans thought the singer might be switching to a career as a server, but she revealed it’s not nearly as serious.

“This guy, a regular, comes in every day and orders two things, so they said, ‘Just go get him!'” Del Rey said. THR. “I brought him a Coke. No ice. And an empty cup,” which she explained was used as a spittoon for chewing tobacco.

Jack Antonoff, producer of three of Del Rey’s albums, explained to The Hollywood Reporter that she is a talented singer and creative — but also a person who “likes to hang around in her truck and drink coffee at the gas station. It can disarm people, but it’s not a little.”

When the singer isn’t stopping by Waffle House, she might just be doing a pop-up gig at a dive bar.

In early September, Del Rey filled the crowd at Robert’s Western World with a cover of Tammy Wynette’s classic country song “Stand by Your Man”. Fans filmed Del Rey performing at the iconic 150-seat venue.

As she took the diva bar stage, the “West Coast” musician was given a sweet introduction: “If you guys cheer loud enough, she might even move to Nashville, Tennessee. She’s a sensation, she’s the best country mom in Robert tonight, Lana Del Rey.”

After seemingly confirming with the guitarist that the band knew how to play the 1968 country-pop hit Wynette, the alternative artist, wearing a bow in her hair and wearing a sweater, floral skirt and cowboy boots, took the microphone. Smiling often during the surprise performance, Del Rey wowed the crowd when she sang the powerful chorus of the song.
