Latto Performs Medley of Trio of New Tracks During 2024 BET Awards

Latto will debut some brand new songs at the 2024 BET Awards.

During her performance at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the “Big Energy” singer, 25, took the stage in comfort, reclining on a couch and wearing an oversized fur coat. Opening her performance, she introduced what appeared to be a new song, in which she rapped about her struggles coming up in the rap world, accompanied by the sounds of an electric guitar.

“I knew I was meant to be someone with diamonds and riches,” she said in one line of the new song as one of the back-up dancers in a long-sleeved black top placed a glittering bracelet on her wrist.

The song’s other lyrics included the line: “Just trying to sip some wine in the rose garden,” and another dancer passed her an elegant glass of red wine as she continued her new song, rapping, “For the next girl that dreams of some bold moves/The love that I They’ve never shown the love I’m about to show you.”

Shortly after, she transitioned into her latest song, “Big Mama.” Switching from a casual performance of her new song to an energetic, sexy dance number with her backing dancers, Latto revealed a leopard print two-piece as giant neon lights appeared behind her and spelled out the track’s title, before ending the performance by mixing her recent “Sunday Service” songs.

Latto was nominated for several awards Sunday night, including best collaboration for her work on Lola Brooke’s “Don’t Play with It (Remix)” with Yung Miami, as well as best female hip-hop artist.

The Grammy nominee’s performance comes just days after the release of “Big Mama,” her first single from her upcoming album Iced tea with sugar and honey.

In May, the rapper made several comments about her upcoming album that shocked fans. IN post on X (formerly Twitter), expressed her dislike of many songs from her first album and second album 777 — and said her new album will “wash away” her earlier music.

“All these songs are crap to the album and this will wash them away,” she wrote at the time.

Despite her thoughts on some of her earlier songs, Latto has worked with some big stars on music collaborations in the past, including Mariah Carey and Jung Kook of BTS. In an interview with CNN last year, she looked forward to the future after her collaborations with the stars, telling the paper, “Once you work with Mariah Carey, anything is possible.”

“I feel like anything is possible at this point. I’m just going to pray and work hard and it’s going to be like really falling into my lap,” she added.
