Lauren Daigle Made an ‘Adoption Pact’ with Friends Ahead of CBS Special ‘A Home for the Holidays’: ‘Why Not?’ (Exclusive)

On the heels of earning two new Grammy nominations, Christian music star and two-time Grammy winner Lauren Daigle is excited to promote a cause near and dear to her heart.

On December 22 at 8:00 PM ET/PT, CBS will air its 25th annual special Home for the holidays, an award-winning program that celebrates families whose lives have been changed by adoption. Interspersed with heartfelt personal stories of adoption, Daigle – along with Gavin DeGraw, Katharine McPhee and David Foster, Pentatonix and gospel legend CeCe Winans – will perform to help raise awareness for the cause.

“I’m so excited,” says the “Hold on to Me” singer, 32. “I got the call a few weeks ago and I immediately said ‘Yes!’ The opportunities where we encourage people to get involved in foster care and in these children’s stories, I think that’s the most important thing we can do.”

For Daigle, promoting foster care and adoption is a personal thing. “I’ve seen some children’s stories that didn’t turn out well,” she says. “I have seen children return to the hands of their predators. I watched it in my family’s story. When people ask me, ‘Can you do anything with your career,’ I always say that I want to rewrite the legislation for children in this country.

Daigle is so committed to finding happy homes for children, the star, who is looking forward to becoming a mom one day, tells PEOPLE that she plans to adopt. And don’t do it alone.

“I keep telling my friends, ‘Why don’t we just say we’re going to adopt at least one child and see where it goes?'” she says. “I feel like if we can all come together as a sisterhood, then we can support each other.” The star adds: “It’s like an adoption pact. I tell them I could adopt more children than I have biologically.”

When it comes to her group of friends, “only a few of us are married. Many of us are single in our thirties. I said, ‘By 40, let’s go ahead and adopt some kids. Why not?””

Daigle recently saw how much of an impact adoption can have on a child.

“The other day I had the opportunity to have this little girl jump on stage with me to dance,” she says. “I remember seeing joy, as if she was dancing from another place. God prompted me to say, ‘Is there anything you want to share with the crowd?’ And she says: ‘I’ve just been adopted!’ I was beside myself. The audience simply erupted, and she burst into tears.”

It’s moments like these that make Daigle proud to be a part of them Home for the holidays. “The show provides an opportunity to show how these children’s lives have changed,” she says. “When you feel the hearts of these children and see the pain they experienced and how adoption can provide a sense of stability and value. It’s pretty priceless.”
