Selena Gomez Has a Funny Fail in the Kitchen with Chef Alex Guarnaschelli: Watch (Exclusive)

Selena Gomez takes her cooking failures in stride.

In a brief overview Selena + cook: Home for the holidays, which premieres Thursday on the Food Network, chef Alex Guarnaschelli taught Just the murders in the building old how to make mozzarella sticks.

“Do you want to throw in some mozzarella sticks?” Guarnaschelli asked Gomez at the start of the clip above.

“Sure! Should I do that with this?” Gomez asked as she held the pliers.

Guarnaschelli wasn’t convinced it was the best dish and asked him, “Hmm, do you have a spider?”

Clearly confused, Gomez couldn’t find it, so they chose a strainer instead, which worked just fine.

The Food Network chef then demonstrated how to place mozzarella sticks in hot oil. “Super simple. You can fry three or four at a time,” she added as Gomez placed breaded cheese sticks into the pot.

But it was clear that Gomez put more than four in the pot. “How does that turn out?” Guarnaschelli asked when she realized the confusion. Then she added, wide-eyed, “You put them all on?”

“Oh, shouldn’t I have?” Gomez said.

Guarnaschelli laughed at that, “No, they’ll be fine. Just mix it up.”

The pair started cracking up over Gomez’s mistake as they moved on to the next task: making a dish with tomato sauce.

“Throw it on the tray. I like some cheese for these bad boys,” Guarnaschelli said. She then asked the “Single Soon” singer to remove the mozzarella sticks from the pot.

As Gomez used a strainer to remove them, they all split open while in the oil and melted cheese oozed out. “They kind of look crazy, but…” Gomez said.

Guarnaschelli jumped as Gomez brought the hot sticks to the tray. She then jokingly crossed herself, showing how wacky she thought the appetizers looked. After another deep breath, she feigned a prayer as Gomez called from the fryer.

“Oh no!” she said as the sticks disintegrated in the oil. Guarnaschelli ended the clip with encouraging words: “They look perfect.”

During a four-part special on Food Network Superstar, Selena + cook: Home for the holidays, beginning Thursday, November 30 at 8:00 PM ET/PT, Gomez will learn the secrets of holiday housekeeping from four different celebrity chefs.
