Leap year babies get special gifts all over the country!
It is known that February, with 28 days, is the shortest of the 12 months, except for this year. Since 2024 is a leap year, there is a February 29th.
To celebrate this rarity (in the cutest way possible), hospitals across the US gave babies born on the second day of the month a commemorative souvenir: little frog hats.

According to Romper, the stylistic tradition of puns dates back to at least 2016.
Babies born on a leap year technically only celebrate their birthday once every four years. There is a 1 in 1461 chance of a baby being born on such a day, so what better way to treat the little ones than with knitted hats?
A representative for Le Bonheur Methodist in Memphis told ABC 24 that a total of at least nine babies were born at their locations on Leap Day. The baby boy, who was born at Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis at 3:56 a.m. local time, was photographed wearing his frog hat after his arrival.

“Leap Day babies wear little frog hats,” user X (formerly known as Twitter) chirped on Thursday along with a picture of the television screen. The image showed a live broadcast from Los Angeles KTLA of two newborns lying in their cradles, each wearing a green frog hat.
Babies born in a leap year are often called “jumpers” or “jumpers”.

Meanwhile, in Florida, some babies were given full outfits to celebrate their births on Thursday.
Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System in Sarasota shared photos on Facebook of the jumper wearing not only his knitted frog hat, but also matching knitted green bottoms. Another newborn posed for photos wearing a onesie that read “I’m a leap year baby,” with a noteworthy date written underneath.

“Extremely special welcome to seven “jumpers” born at SMH-Sarasota and one at SMH-Venice so far! #smhBaby,” their Facebook post added.
“Happy birthday bouncy baby! My oldest baby is a jumper too and is 16 today (technically 4),” one person jokingly added in the comments.
Another wrote: “Sweet [frog emoji] Sweet idea, as it should be [green heart emoji].”
Good Morning Sacramento spoke with a woman named Nicole who “finally hit double digits” and celebrated her 12th leap year birthday, though she hasn’t revealed her actual adulthood. Nicole said she threw a party fit for a 12-year-old later that night, complete with bowling, racing cars and more.

“I’ve been working here for 29 years, I’ve never seen that happen. It’s unbelievable,” the nurse told CNN affiliate KCRA at the time.
“I prayed to God for my little girl and now we will share this amazing relationship for the rest of our lives. I am so happy!” her father, Ivan Peñaloza said, according to KTLA.
