And he will start a new era for England with a new team.

Four players earned their first senior call-up to the Three Lions – Tino Livramento, Morgan Gibbs-White, Angel Gomes and Noni Madueke.

Manchester City youngster Rico Lewis – who has one game under his belt – has secured his place after a strong start to the Premier League season.

Jack Grealish returns to the squad after being left out of Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.

Harry Maguire is also back in the squad after a calf injury.

As expected, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and captain Harry Kane are included.

Ben White remains unavailable as he ruled himself out of Euro 2024 earlier this year.

Jarrell Quansah, Marcus Rashford and James Maddison are absent, while Luke Shaw, Jude Bellingham, Jarrad Branthwaite and Curtis Jones are out with injuries.

Interim manager Carsley leads the England U21 team from 2021.

He led the Young Lions to glory at the European Championship last year in Georgia.

Three of the four uncapped players – Gibbs-White, Gomes and Madueke – played for England in that tournament.

Gomes, 23, who currently plays for Lille in Ligue 1 after leaving Manchester United in 2020, has not played since suffering a horrific head injury against Reims two weeks ago.

For Madueke, the call-up continues his incredible start to the season which saw him score a hat-trick for Chelsea at Wolves last weekend.

The blue ace, 22, has 20 appearances for the under-21 team.

“I understand that I am in a really privileged position. Today it was important to lead the team.
