It was previously thought that Witherspoon would reprise her role in the third Legal blonde movie after she posted a video of herself wearing a pink sequined bikini at a blue pool.
“It’s true,” she captioned the June 2018 video.
Next year, she said Party tonight that she “had a great time” working on the script, but nothing was filmed.

MGM originally announced a May 2022 release date for the film, but that has since been pushed back.
Mindy Kaling, who was tapped to co-write the third installment with Dan Goor (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), resolved the delay in March 2022 TIME interview, saying they “didn’t want to be responsible for destroying what was essentially Reese’s the Avengers franchise.”
Kaling, 44, listed questions the script needed to answer, including, “What’s Elle Woods like at 42? Will she end up being everything she wanted? How does this personality manifest itself in an adult woman? Has she become more cynical? Her clarity and her cheerfulness really worked when she was 22, but how has life changed her perspective?”
