Broadcaster bosses hoped the soap would achieve the same success as EastEnders.

However, Eldorado was short-lived and ended just a year later after nearly 160 episodes amid poor ratings.

Fans have mostly forgotten about the series – until now.

Digital channel UKTV will start airing reruns of the series on its U&Drama channel from Monday 27 January.

Eldorado starred Jesse Birdsall, Patricia Brake, Campbell Morrison, Kathy Pitkin and Rodger Walker.

It also featured two EastEnders stars including Derek Martin and Polly Perkins who respectfully played Charlie Slater and Rose Cotton respectively.

Reruns of Eldorado were shown in the late 90s and early 20s on UK Gold.

A number of episodes have been added to the defunct BritBox 2021 streaming site.

It looks like episodes will once again be available to stream online, with UKTV’s U platform adding a dedicated section for the soap.

Eldorado ended with Marcus, Jesse Birdsall’s character, surviving an assassination attempt in which his car was blown up.

Viewers watched as the fan favorite sailed off into the distance on a boat with his girlfriend.

The most painful teenage soap opera stories

We take a look at other heartbreaking teenage soap operas from Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.

Bella Dingle’s Schizophrenia in Emmerdale – Bella’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) traumatic journey in Emmerdale took a dark turn when, after accidentally killing her best friend Gemma aged just 16, her mental health began to deteriorate.

The story, in which Belle struggles with her grief and guilt, depicts her battle with hearing Gemma’s voice in her head, leading to a dramatic decline in her well-being.

Hannah Ashworth’s anorexia in Hollyoaks – Viewers were horrified as they watched Hannah (Emma Rigby), a seemingly innocent teenager, behave dangerously, starving herself in an attempt to achieve what she thought was her ideal body.

As Hannah’s condition worsened, the story became more intense, culminating in her two months of hospital treatment as she fought for her life.

Bethany Platt’s grooming woes in Coronation Street – The vulnerable schoolgirl, played by Lucy Fallon, was at the center of one of Corrie’s darkest storylines yet when she fell under the spell of her older boyfriend and sexual predator.

The controversial scenes saw Nathan groom and manipulate the 16-year-old before forcing her to sleep with his friends and one of them raping her.

Tony’s abuse of Whitney Dean in EastEnders – From the age of 12, she was in a perverted relationship with her stepmother Bianca’s boyfriend, Tony King. The Predator groomed young Whit (Shona McGarty), making her believe she was in love and planning to run away with him.
