Killers of the Flower Moon cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto recently told Insider that DiCaprio, 48, wore buttock padding for a scene in which Robert De Niro’s character William K. Hale punches DiCaprio’s Ernest Burkhart.
“I don’t think it was in the first script,” Prieto said. “It’s something that’s added, and it’s shocking in the movie.”
The filmmaker added that before working on the film, he read David Grann’s 2017 nonfiction book on which the film is based – which does not mention rowing – so the scene surprised him.
“I remember doing them a few times and thinking, ‘Oh, that must hurt,'” Prieto told the paper. “There was padding on his bum. But you could tell De Niro was really hitting him.”
