The court’s requested ruling upheld a previous decision by Gov. Gavin Newsom, who denied clemency for Leslie in 2020.

Gavin Newsom could be asked to have California Attorney General Rob Bonta petition the California Supreme Court to stop her release.
Bonta’s office referred requests for comment to Gavin Newsom’s office, which did not respond to questions about possible next steps.
Leslie is now in her 70s and is serving a life sentence for helping the Manson family and other followers kill Len LaBianca, who has been identified as a Los Angeles grocer, and his wife Rosemary, who was 19 at the time.
Gavin said Leslie is still a danger to society.
In denying her parole, Gavin also noted that she offered an inadequate and inconsistent explanation for her involvement with Manson at the time of the murders.
