Lexi Reed has reached another milestone as she moves further away from her battle with calciphylaxis — an often fatal disease that led to 59 weeks of treatment for painful wounds all over her body last year.
Wearing a black ruffled one-piece swimsuit—and a big smile—the fitness influencer, whose weight loss journey began years ago, shared that putting her swimsuit back on marked an emotional stop on her recovery journey as she returns to fitness.
“Last summer I sat in [husband] Danny’s truck and I was crying because I couldn’t go swimming. A little to some, but just another thing that was taken away from me,” Reed (32) wrote on Instagram.
Last September, Reed was in the hospital for surgical debridement to remove necrotic skin that was preventing her from healing faster, as she shared on Instagram.

“I’m not a big fan of needles or surgery, but I am a fan of getting my body back to its best health,” she wrote at the time.
But as she wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday, losing her summer swim due to calciphylaxis was just another devastating blow.
“Honestly, I think that was one of the last straws because I was constantly stuck at home in a chair, in chronic pain, or going to appointments with calciphylaxis and having 30+ open wounds (which is exactly why swimming was not possible), says Reed.
Influencer Lexi Reed Embraces Her Loose Skin in a Swimsuit: ‘One of My Biggest Insecurities’
“It was my birthday last month when we made this video @discoveringdanny and I were debating what to do and I realized I might go swimming again if it’s summer now that I’m in remission!” Reed shared happily.
And while she’s back in the gym working on her fitness goals, Reed says a return to the pool is another milestone on the horizon.
Lexi Reed ‘Getting Stronger’ Though ‘My Leg Still Gives Out’
“It hasn’t happened yet, but I found an old smaller suit that fits me again! At first I forgot that I’d have new scarred parts of my legs for people to stare at, other than just my skin, but I quickly remembered that was the least of my worries after all I’d been through to get here. So soon I will be ROCK wearing a suit with a smile on my face, loose skin, scars, war wounds and all. Speak kindly to yourself because you are always listening!”
