Leyton Orient match ABANDONED after desperate fans run onto pitch to stop game for medical emergency in stands

LEYTON ORIENT’S clash with Lincoln was abandoned on Tuesday night due to a medical emergency.

Orient was leading 1:0 in the 84th minute when the game was stopped.

Before the game was stopped, fans stormed the pitch and sat on the playing field in a desperate attempt to stop the match at Brisbane Road so the stricken fan could receive attention.

Both players were eventually taken off the field as the match was suspended until further notice.

SunSport understands medics were seen helping a member of the crowd on the edge of the pitch.

Almost an hour after the match was stopped, Orient confirmed on social media that it would not continue.

They tweeted: “Tonight’s match will not continue due to a medical emergency in the East Stand.

“All our hopes and prayers are with the fan and his loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.”

And Lincoln shared his best wishes, adding: “Tonight’s game at Brisbane Road will not go ahead due to an ongoing medical emergency.

“All our thoughts are with the Orient supporter at the moment.”

Orient were the first to tweet after the emergency, saying: “The match has been suspended due to a crowd emergency.

“We are keeping everything crossed for those involved and will update with additional information as we have it.”

Nine minutes later, the Premier League side then gave another update.

They said: “The players are now being taken off the playing field.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Leyton Orient are with everyone involved.

“We will update further when we have more information.”

Messages of support were also posted on social media after the disturbing scene.

One person said: “I hope they are ok. Forget football life is more important.”

While another added: “We wish the O fan a speedy recovery.”
