Liam Payne’s cause of death confirmed in UK inquest after One Direction star suffered ‘multiple traumas’ in balcony fall

LIAM Payne’s cause of death has been confirmed as a British inquest has been opened into his tragic death.

It comes after the One Direction star suffered “multiple trauma” when he fell from a balcony at a luxury Buenos Aires hotel where he was staying in October.

His medical cause of death was confirmed by dr. Roberto Victor Cohen as ‘polittrauma’ – meaning multiple traumatic injuries.

The hearing was held at Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court on December 17.

It said it may take “some time” to officially confirm how the 31-year-old died.

The UK inquest into Liam’s death has now been adjourned until a pre-inquest review on November 6, the coroner’s court said.

Five people have been charged over Liam’s death after he fell from the third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires.

The hotel manager, the receptionist and a friend of Payne’s have been charged with manslaughter, Argentina’s National Criminal and Penitentiary Prosecutor’s Office said.

They are said to be hotel manager Gilda Martin, receptionist Esteban Grassi and Payne’s friend Roger Nores.

Two others, hotel employee Ezequiel Pereyra and waiter Braian Paiz, were charged with supplying cocaine.

Paiz was arrested by police after a judge gave him 24 hours to surrender – and the Argentine was found at home.

Pereyra surrendered to police after initially running away and evading police who came to his home to arrest him.

Paiz’s lawyer, Fernando Madeo, previously insisted his client was the victim of a “witch hunt” as officers desperately try to find answers to the One Direction star’s death.

Paiz is accused of delivering cocaine to the troubled pop star on two separate occasions on October 14.

He previously admitted to doing drugs with the star, but insisted he was not a dealer.

Lawyer Madeo said: “They want to find the guilty at all costs, violating constitutional rights and guarantees and forming a ‘truth’ that turns out to be false as is the case here.

“Accusing innocent people of crimes they did not commit.”

Judge Laura Bruniard said that just before 5pm Liam “couldn’t look after himself” and had “apparently passed out” in the hotel lobby.

The judge also concluded that Liam fell to his death after trying to climb over his balcony, which appeared to support claims he was trying to escape his room because he didn’t want to be there.

Liam’s manager, as well as the hotel manager and front desk manager, have now been charged with manslaughter – similar to manslaughter in the UK.

He was in the Argentine capital on a tour with friend Niall Horan when he died.

Crowds of devastated fans flocked to the hotel to pay their respects to their idol.

It comes as the grieving Payne family say they are praying for “justice” following the indictment.

A friend of the family told The Sun: “It’s been a very difficult Christmas for them but now they just want justice for their son.

“Finally, after a terrible few months, there’s a sense that this might be possible.”

Liam was in the South American country with girlfriend Kate Cassidy, 25.

She returned to the US three days before Liam’s death.
