Crescenti said: “Our role was to get there quickly, provide medical attention and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life.

“Based on what the team saw, there was clearly a fractured skull and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.”

Emergency services confirmed the identity of the 31-year-old pop star by checking his passport.

Crescenti said Liam fell into the hotel’s interior patio, but declined to comment on reports that he may have been drunk or on drugs.

He emphasized that the officials are still waiting for the results of the autopsy and urged everyone who rushes to judgment “not to exaggerate”.

Hotel staff told police that on October 10, Liam checked into the posh Casa Sur Hotel in the trendy suburb of Argentina’s capital, Palermo, by himself.

He is understood to be in town to meet up with former 1D bandmate Niall Horan, who was performing at the Movistar Arena.

Liam’s body was removed from the hotel at 8.38pm local time, more than three hours after his tragic fall.

Pathologists are expected to perform an autopsy later today in Buenos Aires to try to answer questions surrounding the singer’s tragic death.

Comes as:

Liam’s body was taken last night to the city mortuary in Viamonte Street, just a 15-minute drive south-west of the boutique hotel.

Pathologists will examine traces of alcohol and drug consumption before yesterday’s tragedy at Casa Sur Palermo.

Officials did not say how long it would take to get the test results, but local media said it would take 10 to 15 days.

Photographs published overnight by several Argentine newspapers, said to be inside Liam’s deluxe suite room, show the burnt top of what appeared to be a soda can, traces of white powder and pieces of aluminum foil on the worktop.

The prosecutor in charge of investigating Liam’s death has been named as Andres Esteban Madrea.

If it is confirmed that narcotics were found in the singer’s hotel room and may have contributed to his death, police are expected to try to determine who supplied him with the drugs before possible prosecution.

It comes after a chilling 911 call made by a distraught hotel manager seeking “urgent” help before Liam’s death was revealed.

Argentine police said they were called to the hotel on Wednesday after staff reported an “aggressive man who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol”.

The front desk manager made two calls, in the first he told the 911 operator, “We have a guest who is destroying everything in his room. We need someone to come.”

He called after the line was disconnected, repeating his request and claiming: “We urgently need to send someone because I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger.

The hotel manager’s call to 911

911 operator: “What’s going on sir?”

Hotel manager: “We have a guest drunk from drugs and alcohol. When he [them, gender not clear in conversation] is conscious, breaking everything in the room.”

911 operator: “You said alcohol and drugs…”

Hotel manager: “That’s right.”

911 Operator: “You said Costa Rica crosses where?”

Hotel manager: “Costa Rica 6032.”

911 operator: “Repeat.”

Hotel manager: “Costa Rica 6032.”

911 operator: “What’s the name of the hotel?”

Hotel manager: “Caza Sur Palermo. We have to send someone immediately because I don’t know if the guest is in danger because he is in a room with a balcony, and we are afraid that he might do something life-threatening.”

911 Operator: “How long has he been there? Is it an extended stay hotel?”

Hotel manager: “(The guest) has been there for the last three days.”

911 operator: “You don’t have any other information because you can’t get in. Right?”

Hotel manager: “No.”

911 operator: “We are also notifying SAME (Emergency Medical Services).”

Hotel manager: “Please send someone immediately because…”

911 Operator: “We’re doing it. Give me some more information. Who are you?”

Hotel manager: “I’m the desk manager.”

911 operator: “Person in charge of the location.”

Hotel manager – “Yes.”

911 operator: “It’s been notified. What’s your name, sir?”

Hotel manager: “Esteban.”

911 Operator: “Thank you for the call. Be online.”

Hotel manager: “Are you also sending the police?”

911 operator: “Delegation police… To confirm.”

Hotel Manager: “No, no, just the SAME, just the SAME (Emergency Medical Service).”

911 operator: “Don’t worry because they’ve already been notified.”

Hotel manager: “Since he’s under the influence of alcohol and drugs, as you said, the SAME staff can’t go in alone.”

911 Operator: “You can ask the police about that, but if SAME needs them, they’ll let you know.”

Hotel manager: “Good, OK, perfect.”

911 operator: “Have a nice day.”

Hotel manager: “Thank you, and you too.”

“They must be in the room that has a balcony. And well, we’re a little worried that he’s going to do something, that he’s going to risk his life.”

Just minutes before his death, Liam shared a Snapchat post showing himself and girlfriend Kate Cassidy looking at each other in the mirror.

Tributes have poured in for the singer, with celebrities and fans alike sharing their heartbreak.

Harry Styles’ mum shared a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram and wrote in the caption: “Just a boy…”.

Liam’s ex-fiancée Maya Henry was also “in shock” after the tragic news.

Just two days before Liam’s tragic fall, Maya commented on the podcast claiming the star “predicted his early death”.

Liam posted earlier in the day talking about riding horses, playing polo and looking forward to coming home to see his dog.

Commentary: Howell Davies on Liam Payne

written by Howell Davies, Associate Editor of Bizarre

LIAM was warm, slightly goofy and the dad – figuratively, not literally – of One Direction, always in control and giving the people what they wanted.

He was the spokesperson of the group, speaking while others were fooling around or receding into the background.

I’ve interviewed him many times over the years, most notably in December 2014 when I was a new journalist and he was still one fifth of the world’s most famous boy band.

That night at the BBC Music Awards in West London, they huddled on the sofa and Liam spoke animatedly while his bandmate Zayn Malik barely said a word.

He was friendly and the most professional of the group because he knew his role was to hold things together.

You could tell he was eager to please, even then.

But I would hear whispers behind the scenes that all was not well.

He abused alcohol and his love life was a roller coaster.

Things have come to a head in One Direction’s final year and those around him have made it clear that it’s a relief to finally have some free time to be a normal guy in his early twenties – after years of pinballing around the world. glove in a haze of screaming fans.

It was shocking to me that at the age of 22, he had been in the industry for years, while I, only a year older, was just starting my career.

I still felt like a child, but he was one of the most talked about people in the world.

A handwritten note on a tiny piece of torn paper attached to a tree next to the flowers read in Spanish: “Thank you so much Liam. I love you.”

Another above him, also in Spanish, said: “Dear Liam. Many thanks for following us for so many years and helping us in the best and worst times. We will never forget you.”

The touching message was signed by “Milena, Felipe and Dima”.

Another said: “Whoever you are Liam you will always have a piece of my heart with you.

“Fly high. Thank you very much.”

Below, someone wrote on a smaller piece of paper: “Liam, you saved my life. You will always be in our hearts. Fly high, our angel.”
