Former One Direction star Liam, 31, died of multiple injuries after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on Wednesday afternoon.
Kate was on holiday with him in the South American country, but returned home to the US two days earlier.
The couple flew out to watch Liam’s One Direction bandmate Niall Horan perform in the country and, while out and about, extended their stay.
After two weeks away, the American actress revealed that she was ready to leave and decided to return home.
She explained on TikTok: “Honestly, I love South America, but I hate staying in one place for too long. And we were supposed to be there for five days, it turned into two weeks.

“I just thought, ‘I have to go home.'”
The couple had been together for two years and recently moved into a new home in Florida.
Liam was first linked to Kate in October 2022, before making their first red carpet debut together two months later.
Kate’s latest Instagram post of the couple together, pictured at a wedding just weeks before his death, prompted emotional tributes from fans.
The couple went to their friends’ wedding in Paris and were photographed looking in love at the beautiful estate.
Liam was in a suit and boots, and Kate wore a yellow off-the-shoulder dress for the occasion.
Kate wrote: “The most beautiful evening, celebrating lovebirds.”
Heartbroken fans left a flurry of comments under Kate’s post, commenting on how happy the couple looked back then.
One follower wrote: “Thank you for making him happy again, even if only for a little while, we will always be grateful for that.
“I wish you the best, Kate! I know it’s hard, but stay strong! We’re trying here too.”

It was confirmed to The Sun on Wednesday night that Liam had passed away.
The singer-songwriter stayed at the CasaSur hotel in the Palermo district of Argentina.
Witnesses said Liam smashed his laptop and had to be carried back to the room after a strange incident earlier in the day, TMZ reports.
His death was confirmed as soon as the emergency team arrived.
Officers found “what appeared to be narcotics, alcohol, destroyed items and furniture” in his room.
Photos released by Argentine media show white powder, burnt aluminum foil and a broken TV screen in his apartment.
Forensic teams reported that a bottle of whiskey, a lighter and a mobile phone were recovered from the courtyard of the building where Liam’s body was found.
But police are yet to confirm what substances were found in the room and will be testing them soon.
The singer has been open about his struggles with addiction in the past.
