Lily Allen Says She's 'Really Not in a Good Place' and That She's Been 'Spiraling and Spiraling'

Lily Allen plans to take a break amid her ongoing mental health issues.

On the Thursday January 9 episode of her BBC podcast do you miss me? with co-host Miquita Oliver, Allen, 39, admitted that it’s “really hard for her to be interested in anything” at the moment as she discussed the fact that she hasn’t seen Sunday’s 2025 Golden Globes.

“I’m just like that… I’m really not in a good place,” the “It’s not fair” singer told Oliver.

She continued: “I know I’ve been talking about it for months, but I’ve been spinning and spinning and spinning and it’s gotten out of hand.”

“I tried, I mean, I came to the Christmas lunch, on do you miss me? Christmas lunch and I had a panic attack and had to go home. I went to see something at the theater the other night with mine [friends] Carlo and Claire and I had to leave at halftime,” Allen said.

The mother-of-two – who married husband David Harbour, 49, in 2020 – continued: “I just can’t concentrate on anything but the pain I’m going through.”

“It’s really, really hard,” she added, confirming that she will be taking some time off.

“I’m leaving next week. You won’t be hearing from me for a couple of weeks, listeners,” Allen said, denying the “vicious rumours” claiming the disease had returned and he was going to rehab, apparently getting emotional on the show.

Allen’s representatives did not immediately respond when PEOPLE contacted them.

The musician, who has been sober for five years, spoke openly about not taking drugs or drinking alcohol.

The daughter of actor and comedian, Keith Allen, told a British newspaper The Times in an interview in November, “I think that addiction is deeply ingrained in my family, so self-medication had to come at a price. For me it didn’t really feel like an ‘if’, it was a ‘when’. ”

“The journey of sobriety is not individual and it is not linear. So if sharing your own experiences and struggles helps even just one person understand what they’re going through, then it’s all worth it,” said the star, who is an ambassador for UK addiction charity Forward Trust.

Allen has also been open about her mental health struggles on her podcast, sharing on the Dec. 16 episode that she had struggled with eating for the past three years, which she had kept from her therapist.

“I’ve been going through a rough patch for the past few months and my diet has become a real problem,” she said on the show.

Allen, who previously said she suffered from bulimia in 2011, said on the Dec. 16 episode of the podcast that she didn’t necessarily lie in therapy, but she inadvertently left out aspects of her life during the sessions.

“It’s just because it didn’t seem at the top of my list of important things to talk about,” she said, adding elsewhere in the podcast, “I’m really not in a good place mentally right now. .”
