Lindsay Clancy, Mass. Mom Accused of Killing 3 Children, Researched ‘Ways to Kill’: Court Docs

Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of murdering her three young children before attempting suicide, allegedly researched “methods of killing” before their deaths, authorities said in recently unsealed court documents.

Clancy, 33, faces three counts each of murder and strangulation in the January slayings of her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 7-month-old Callan, after she was indicted by a Plymouth County grand jury in September, PEOPLE previously reported .

Prosecutors allege that Clancy strangled each of them to death with an exercise band at the family’s Duxbury, Mass., home on the evening of Jan. 24 while her husband, Patrick Clancy, went out to run a few errands.

Recently unsealed court documents obtained by WCVB-TV, MassLive and The Boston Globeinclude search warrants and accompanying affidavits detailing the evidence found at the former nurse’s home.

Investigators reportedly collected Clancy’s pink iPhone, electronic tablets, laptops, exercise bands, a silver knife and four bottles of prescription medication, among other items. Investigators also took blood and urine samples from Clancy along with swabs from under her fingernails.

“Investigators are also aware that Ms Clancy used her mobile phone and her diary to document her mental state and her feelings towards her children, in addition to keeping track of her medication and researching methods of killing, meaning that [it] it is reasonable to conclude that Ms. Clancy would have used all formats and tools available to her, including a tablet,” the affidavit states, per The Boston Globe.

The nearly 300 pages of documents did not reveal details of the alleged searches.

At Clancy’s first trial in February, her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, argued that she was heavily medicated and inadequately treated for postpartum mental illness she allegedly suffered in the months leading up to the suspected murders, and therefore could not be held accountable for her alleged crimes. works.

Clancy has been hospitalized since the incident and is said to have been paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the fall.

Prosecutors had previously alleged that Clancy sent Patrick on an errand to pick up dinner and a prescription on the night of the murders, showing “deliberate premeditation and extreme heinousness and cruelty.”
