ODI Cricket Double Century List: There was a time when scoring a double century in a One Day International (ODI) match was like a dream. But Belinda Clark of Australia was the first female cricketer to achieve this feat scoring 229* runs against Denmark on 16th December 1997.

Sachin Tendulkar was the first male cricketer to score the first double century (200*) in an ODI against South Africa in 2010.

To date, 10 cricketers have scored 10 double centuries in ODIs, including 5 Indian batsmen.

In the recent bilateral ODI series between India and New Zealand, Indian batsman Shubman Gill scored a double century and hit five sixes in five balls. Additionally, he is the fastest Indian cricketer to score 1000 runs in ODIs.

Records of Centuries and Double Centuries in ODIs

  • The first ODI fifty was scored by John Edrich (England) against Australia. He scored 82 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on January 5, 1971.
  • Dennis Amiss (England) was the first cricketer to score the first century in ODI cricket. He scored the first century (103) in ODI history against Australia on 24 August 1972.
  • Rohit Sharma is the highest individual scorer (264 runs) in ODIs.
  • The record for the fastest double century in ODIs is held by Ishan Kishan. Earlier this record was held by Chris Gayle but Ishan recently broke the record by scoring the fastest ever century in ODI history. In the last and third ODI match of the series against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittogram, the man scored a fantastic double century off just 126 balls. He became the seventh batsman in the world to achieve the milestone after Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and Virender Sehwag.
  • Vivian Richards was the first player to score 180 plus in an ODI in 1984. But this record was broken by Gary Kirsten who scored 188* runs against United Arab Emirates on 16 February 1996.
  • Saeed Anwar (Pakistan) was the first player to get into a score of 190 plus in ODIs. Anwar’s record of 194 runs against India on 21 May 1997 remained intact until December 1997. The record was broken by Australian cricketer Belinda Clark. She broke the 200-plus mark and scored an unbeaten 229 runs against Denmark at the MIG Club Ground in Mumbai. With his stunning innings of 208 runs, Shubman Gill became the 5th Indian player to score a double century in ODIS.

Rohit Sharma has achieved numerous remarkable feats in his career, including three double centuries in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

  • 209 vs Australia: On November 2, 2013, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, India, Rohit Sharma became the first cricketer to score a double century in ODIs. He achieved this during the 7th match of the bilateral series against Australia. Rohit’s innings included 16 sixes and 12 fours.
  • 264 vs Sri Lanka: On 13 November 2014, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, India, Rohit Sharma surpassed the previous record to set a new world record for the highest score by an ODI batsman. He achieved this remarkable feat during the 4th match of the bilateral series against Sri Lanka. Rohit’s innings included 33 fours and 9 sixes.
  • 208* vs Sri Lanka: On 13 December 2017, at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, India, Rohit Sharma scored his third double century in ODIs. He achieved this milestone during the 2nd match of the bilateral series against Sri Lanka. Rohit’s innings included 13 fours and 12 sixes.
