Lizzo Jumps Rope During Bali Getaway: 'I'm Whooping My Ass'

Lizzo continues her fitness journey — even while on vacation.

The Grammy winner, 36, said she’s “taking a year off and protecting my peace🙏🏾” — but that doesn’t mean she’s relaxing her workout routine.

“Let’s jump rope in Bali,” the “About Damn Time” singer said in a video posted to her Instagram Stories, before showing a time-lapse montage of herself energetically skipping rope on a balcony.

“I’m constantly thrashing… kicking my ass,” she said with a laugh as she exercised next to a lush tropical canopy.

Besides being portable, “jumping rope is one of the best exercises you can do for your overall fitness,” celebrity trainer Corey Calliet, who has worked with Lizzo, Khloé Kardashian and more, tells PEOPLE. “It works your entire body—legs, core, arms—while increasing your coordination, agility, and cardio. The impact it has on your stamina and endurance is serious, and because it’s high-intensity, you’ll burn tons of calories fast, making it perfect for slimming and conditioning.”

“I have a very high-performing job,” she said. “For 90 minutes a night, I have to do choreography, I have to sing, I have to dance, I have to rap and I have to play the flute. And I have to emotionally challenge the audience in very tight clothes, sometimes clothes that restrict my breathing.”

“It’s fun. I love my job. It takes a lot of physical stamina to do what I do, and I used to be a rock star, throwing myself on stage,” Lizzo continued.

“The strange thing about depression is that you don’t know you’re in it until you’re out of it. I’m definitely not as carefree as I used to be. But the dark cloud that followed me every day is finally dissipating.”
