Lizzo Says She’s ‘Doin Shots Tonight’ After Her Concert Special Was Nominated at the Emmys

Lizzo is feeling pretty damn good after the 75th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

Following Saturday and Sunday’s prime-time Achievement Awards, the 35-year-old pop star took to Instagram to celebrate the nomination with her Max concert special Lizzo: Live concert received. Although she didn’t take home the award for Outstanding Variety Special, the singer/rapper wrote that she feels like the team behind the project are “already winners” and shared that she’s “doing shots” to celebrate.

The “Special” singer released a carousel of footage from her onstage performance in the concert film, which was released in late 2022 and features footage from one of her performances at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

In the title, she tagged the Television Academy and the entire team behind the documentary to express her gratitude and open up about what the nomination means to her.

“NAH IMA TALK MY S—,” the hitmaker’s post began. “OF 100 CONCERT SPECIALS, THE EMMY CHOSEN MINE FOR OUTSTANDING VARIETY SPECIAL — AN HONOR TO BE NOMINATED TONIGHT WITH THE LEGENDS!”

The Grammy winner went on to shout out her collaborators, including Cardi B, Missy Elliott and SZA, who all made guest appearances on the special. “And to my SPECIAL TOUR FAMILY! THANK YOU — WE HAD A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE THAT *NO ONE* CAN TAKE AWAY FROM US,” she wrote. “THANK YOU @missymisdemeanorelliott @iamcardib @sza FOR MAKING IT EVEN MORE SPECIAL.”

The celebratory post ended sweetly, “TONIGHT I’M FILMING BECAUSE WE’RE ALREADY WINNERS AND MORE THAN CONQUERORS🙌🏾 TAG EVERYONE IN THE PICTURES — I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL AND YOU CAN DO ANYTHING 💖💖💖💖.”

Burnett, 90, ended up taking home the award for her birthday tribute and comedy special, which aired on NBC last spring.

The 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards is not Lizzo’s first time competing for an Emmy. Back in 2022, her Amazon Prime Video series Lizzo’s Watch out for the Big Grrrls was nominated for — and ultimately won — an award for outstanding competitive programming.

SZA praises friend Lizzo as a ‘wonderful person’ amid the singer’s legal woes

In addition to celebrating her Emmy nomination, the R&B-pop artist kicked off 2024 by teasing the latest offerings from her Yitty brand on Instagram.

“New year, new me. You know what they say, ‘Run, don’t walk?’ Teleport, bitch,” the musician said in the clip as she modeled her latest line of leggings and sports bras.

The singer – who is still in the midst of facing several harassment lawsuits from former employees – also revealed to fans on social media in November that new music is on the way sometime in 2024.

I’m working on… music, myself, relationships with people and food, my anxiety, my body, my work, and my trust issues in the world,” she wrote. But now they’re deep, deeper than they’ve ever been.
