Lokesh Verma is an Indian tattoo artist who was one of the first Indians to perform sonic tattoos. He is famous for founding the international tattoo festival ‘Heartwork Tattoo Festival’ which is considered to be India’s only international tattoo festival. He owns several tattoo studios in India and abroad called Devil’z Tattooz.

When Lokesh was a teenager, his parents worked hard to provide basic amenities for the family. He faced various financial difficulties and lived in a small apartment for many years. His father served in the military and worked odd jobs to support the family after retirement. Lokesh’s mother, a teacher, also contributed to making ends meet. In an interview, he said about this incident,
Despite their meager income, my parents made sure that my sister and I received a proper education so that we could have a better future. I was an average student but had a passion for art and ended up drawing everywhere, including my bag and school benches. “
Despite the challenges, Lokesh is determined to create a better future for himself. Due to poor family economic conditions, he started working after finishing the exam. His first job was handing out brochures and Internet CDs on the streets and selling door-to-door around town. Surprisingly, Lokesh topped his team in CD sales, which led to his promotion to team leader. Although Lokesh had some success, he soon grew tired of the job and decided to pursue his passion for music. Eventually, he became a DJ. After graduation, Lokesh enrolled in an MBA program. He used to take MBA courses from 8 am to 12 am, work from 12 pm to 7 pm, and DJ from 9 pm to 12 pm. To save money to buy his first tattoo machine, Lokesh found another job at a local McDonald’s. During the day, he made burgers and performed various tasks, including mopping floors and cleaning toilets. In the evening, he continues to work as a DJ. I bought a machine and started tattooing myself, determined to learn it all. My dad was very supportive and offered his skin for me to practice on. I was so fascinated by this art that I tattooed my friends for free and sometimes even prepared to pay them to get tattoos from me. “

After buying a tattoo machine, he tried his first tattoo on his father. In an interview, he talked about his father’s tattoos. He said,
I always love drawing skulls and crossbones. I used a needle to make a big devil on his arm…it turned out great and is still strong. “
He then started designing tattoos for his friends and charging them no fees. Sometimes, he even offers to pay them to let him design tattoos on their bodies. However, he began to run out of supplies, charging people to buy new supplies. In 2005, his passion for tattooing began to transform into a career. As more and more people heard about his talent, his friends and acquaintances began lining up to get tattoos from Lokesh between 2003 and 2005. Lokesh has taught many people the art of tattooing over the years. He always emphasized the importance of cleanliness and hygiene when teaching others. Having worked in as many as 15 different countries, Lokesh ensures that his studio follows strict European standards. In 2010, Lokesh traveled to the United States and Europe to further develop his skills. He was fortunate enough to perfect his art at renowned studios such as Paul Booth’s Last Rites Tattoo Gallery in New York City, Nikko Hurtado’s Black Anchor Tattoo in Hollywood, CA, Off the Map, Tommy Lee’s Monsters in MA, Tattoo Cologne, Heaven in Germany .
