Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Julio Urías Arrested on Felony Domestic Violence Charges

Los Angeles Dodgers star Julio Urías has been arrested on domestic violence charges, according to multiple reports.

The starting pitcher, 27, was taken into custody shortly after 11pm on Sunday near BMO Stadium, where he was attending Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami-Los Angeles FC game, according to reports USA TodayESPN and Sports Illustrated.

Urías posted $50,000 bail and was released before 5 a.m., according to USA Today. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 27, the newspaper reported.

A representative for the Los Angeles Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for additional information.

On Monday, the Dodgers published a statement that the player will not travel with the team to the upcoming away games in Miami and Washington, DC

“We are aware of the incident involving Julio Urías,” the team said in a statement. “Although we are trying to find out all the facts, he will not be traveling with the team. The organization has no further comment at this time.”

On Sunday, Urías attended the MLS game alongside a host of celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio and Selena Gomez, along with teammates Clayton Kershaw and Mookie Betts.

In 2019, Urías was arrested at the Beverly Center Mall on suspicion of domestic violence. The Los Angeles Times reported at the time that witnesses told police that Urías pushed the woman, causing her to fall.

Prosecutors later declined to take action on the charges, on the condition that he not be rearrested for violent criminal conduct within a year, according to the newspaper.

However, according to ESPN, the athlete received a 20-game suspension under Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy.

Urías is currently under a one-season contract with the Dodgers, signing a contract worth $14.25 million earlier this year.

With an 11-8 record and a 4.60 ERA, the pitcher is slated to become a free agent next season.
