Love Is Blind’s Chelsea Doesn’t Think Timing of Trevor’s Proposal Would Have Made Her Pick Him Over Jimmy (Exclusive)

Chelsea Blackwell fully stands behind her decision to cast Jimmy Presnell in the Love is blind pods — and he doesn’t think anything, or anyone, would change that.

Last month, after the first batch of episodes of season six hit Netflix, Chelsea’s second relationship in the groups, Trevor Sova, told PEOPLE that he thinks the outcome of his relationship with Chelsea would have been different if he had proposed first.

Trevor, 31, claims the capsule dates are set so that “you think the most about whoever is freshest to you from the day before.” In the case of Chelsea, he said: “She just had a date night with Jimmy at about five and a half the night before. And then Jimmy saw her first thing in the morning, and that’s when he proposed, and later on in the day.”

“So I think it could have gone either way if you changed it,” he added. – I am not saying with certainty, but there is a possibility.

But now, Chelsea, 31, is responding to his theory, telling PEOPLE that the moment of Trevor’s proposal would “absolutely not” change who she decided to get engaged to.

“I had two really great men. Trevor just wasn’t a match, and my gut was telling me something. My gut was just telling me, ‘It’s not that, but Jimmy is,'” she recalls.

“The day before Proposal Day you don’t know who’s going to go first — it could be Trevor, it could be Jimmy, it doesn’t matter,” she explains. “But I knew for sure [who I would pick]. That night I went to bed, I prayed, I meditated, I did everything I needed to do to get my heart and head in line and it all led me to Jimmy.”

Still, Chelsea admits: “I didn’t know if I was going to go through the breakup first or get engaged first, and I ended up getting engaged first – which would have been a complete emotional rollercoaster either way – but it worked out exactly how it was supposed to.”

“So it wouldn’t change my opinion or my answer at all,” she adds.

Before Chelsea and Jimmy, 28, got engaged, they both had other capsule relationships that they had to end. Jimmy broke things off with Jessica Vestal before he proposed, while Chelsea couldn’t break things off with Trevor until she accepted Jimmy’s proposal.

“I had no clue about it,” Trevor previously told PEOPLE. “I go in there pretty confident. I don’t know, I’ve never connected with a girl the way I connected with her, so I was amazed that she felt she had a better connection with someone else… it just shocked me.”

After the season six couples were eliminated from the group, Jimmy and Chelsea faced problems almost immediately, starting with their discovery. Before meeting his new fiancée, Jimmy accidentally called Chelsea “Jessica” on camera. Chelsea also sparked an online discourse among fans after she told Jimmy she looked like Megan Fox while they were still in the pods. Following the revelation, Jimmy admitted on camera that Chelsea “lied” about her looks, even though he was still attracted to her.

The two later clashed when Jimmy made a comment about co-star Amber Desiree “AD” Smith’s body in the Dominican Republic, causing Chelsea to become uncomfortable and emotional. And in North Carolina, the couple argued about Jimmy’s lack of love and whether he had doubts about his choice after seeing a photo of Jessica. Things came to a head when Jimmy went out with his female friends – one of whom he had previously slept with – and Chelsea later revealed they had sex, despite agreeing not to discuss the subject on camera.

Speaking to PEOPLE about their feud, Chelsea said that “there’s so much context missing from both of those big fights, which is so unfortunate because I look like a literal crazy person when it comes to putting my life on the line and opening up my relationship to the world. .”

“It sucks to see those parts not shown, but that’s how it is,” she added, noting that she regretted betraying Jimmy’s trust, even though the conversation needed to be had as they are just days away from a potential wedding.

“I definitely regret bringing it up on camera,” Chelsea explains. “It’s something that he’s made very clear that he doesn’t want exposed to the world, but in reality, this is my relationship, these are our issues, and I’m really sitting with this issue that I’m not allowed to bring up at certain times, which is it’s not fair… just walking around on a shell about a really big problem in our relationship, me had have that conversation. I didn’t care about the cameras.”

Chelsea also says she has since apologized to Jimmy’s friend and has gotten a response. “I spoke to her multiple times and just apologized and said, ‘I don’t know what’s going to be shown, but I’m really, really sorry that I exposed you in this way. It was never my intention, but this was our relationship and that was a big problem,'” she shares.

But while Chelsea’s storylines with Trevor and Jimmy have been full of drama, nothing has been as shocking as the recent bombshell that Trevor secretly had a fiancée while filming Love is blind. Trevor has not publicly addressed the revelation, and neither has Chelsea.

However, Trevor is expected to be grilled about his secret relationship in the upcoming season six reunion, which airs on Wednesday night.

“Without knowledge [Chelsea]you had someone on the outside,” host Nick Lachey points out in the trailer, drawing an audible gasp from the audience. “I’d love to hear what you have to say.”

Trevor tries to gather his thoughts and speak, but is eventually left speechless by the question.
