Love Is Blind’s Milton Meets Lydia’s Family for the First Time — and Tears Are Shed (Exclusive)

Love is blind’s Milton Johnson and his fiancee Lydia Velez Gonzalez are taking the next step in their relationship.

In PEOPLE’s exclusive sneak peek of an upcoming episode of the popular Netflix dating series, Milton meets Lydia’s family for the first time since getting engaged.

“It’s really good with Lydia because we always find that compromise,” Milton, 25, tells his mother and brother.

Lydia, 32, fully agrees, adding: “He listens. I say I don’t like this, and he immediately tries to correct it. He’s trying to understand why it bothers me, and I know and I assure you that I know you have my back and that’s one of the most important things and I don’t take that for granted.”

Her mother then answers in Spanish, and her brother offers to translate, saying, “She’s always been an adventurer. She was always the one who did the most emotional things.”

Her mother explains that her daughter is “passionate” before she gets emotional. Her mother adds, “I love you very much.”

“I know you do,” Lydia replies. “I love you too. You are my Everything.”

After her mother speaks again in Spanish, her brother translates: “All I want is for you both to be happy.”

The family reunion comes after Lydia’s bombshell revelation that she previously dated fellow contestant, Uche Okoroha.

Milton was understandably shocked by the revelation and kept quiet at first, which upset Lydia, who wanted a louder response from him. When Milton couldn’t provide that, the two decided to break away from the pods for a moment and go into their living quarters, before reuniting to discuss the big news.

While viewers couldn’t hear what Milton was thinking at the time, he recently revealed to PEOPLE what was actually going through his mind after learning that information.

“That’s usually what I do. I put my head down, go back into my shell for a second, and then I just think,” the petroleum engineer explained. “And I’m like, okay. I’m very logistical with the way I plan things. I thought about it and then I said, ‘Okay, what’s my heart telling me now?'”

“And it all came together and I said, ‘Oh, well, this is in front of me. We all have pasts, we all have exes.’ I didn’t mind,” he said. “It was like, yeah, okay, no problem. That’s interesting. Now what do we do next?”

What eventually followed for the two was a proposal inside the capsules, to which Lydia agreed. The next three episodes, which will be shown on Friday, will follow Milton and Lydia as they meet face to face for the first time, go on a “honeymoon” in Mexico and eventually live together.

But like any couple, the two will also have to adjust to life together – including getting to know each other’s friends and family, figuring out how to live together, and finally deciding if they want to spend the rest of their lives together.

Episodes 1-4 of Love is blind season 5 is currently streaming on Netflix. Episodes 5-7 will air Friday at 3am ET/12am PT.
