Love Island USA's Miguel Harichi Reveals He Played a Love Island Contestant on Ted Lasso (Exclusive)

The runner-up, who left Fiji with fan favorite Leah Kateb, joined the Peacock dating series in episode 9, but tells PEOPLE it wasn’t technically his first Island of love experience.

“Funnily enough, people actually found out that I was playing a part – I was actually an extra in Ted Lasso series, and I played a Island of love character,” says Harichi, 27. “So Ted Lasso, I think, was watching TV, and I was a character on TV [show].”

The episode Harichi is talking about is the moment in season two when Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) joins a British reality dating series made by Island of lovebut called Lust conquers all.

Harichi shows up when Tartt is kicked out of the mansion—despite his belief that Harichi will be the one sent home instead.

However, Harichi admits that he “didn’t actually see Ted LassoI didn’t even see it [episode].”

“When I’m working, I don’t look back at it,” he says. “Unless it’s modeling. Because they’re shoots, so you’ll see it and you’ll be like, ‘Okay, I can appreciate the picture.’

When Season 2 of the hit Apple TV+ series premiered in 2021, Dunster, 32, said his character was forced to face some of his demons after being eliminated from Island of love– inspired reality series. “He’s learning from the emotional toll he did before. He’s on a path of understanding, responsibility and apology.”

The actor also admitted that he adopted them Love Island UK of his own. “I had one season coming in,” he said. – It was Dani Dyer’s season.

“I went into it the wrong way. I went into it really wanting to hate it and despise it, but I was also so fascinated by it,” Dunster said. “At best, it’s kind of a cross-section of humanity in stressful situations, but you have to have a really, really good mindset to approach it that way. Or not. Or people just enjoy it because it’s an escape from reality and it’s fun and people mess up, which is probably what many people would say Ted Lasso is also.”

While Harichi may not have joined the hilarious Jason Sudeikis-helmed series just yet, there’s still some time before she’s rumored to return for season four.

PEOPLE confirmed this in August Ted Lasso took a promising step toward a comeback as Warner Bros. Television has picked up options for actors including Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift. The actors represented by SAG-AFTRA in the US – Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt and Juno Temple – will still have to make deals.

Island of love USA season 6 can be streamed in its entirety on Peacock, and seasons 1-3 from Ted Lasso can be streamed on Apple TV+.
