Lovlina Borgohain is an Indian amateur boxer. She is the first woman from Assam to qualify for the Olympics. Lovelina is the second Assam boxer after Shiva Thapa to represent India in boxing.

Lovlina Borgohain was born on Thursday, October 2, 1997, in Golaghat district, Assam (age 25; as of 2022). Her zodiac sign is Libra. She attended Barpatta Girls High School in Golaghat. In her early teens, she was inspired by her older sister and began practicing Taekwondo. However, she later turned to boxing. Once, Lovelina participated in a tryout held by the Sports Authority of India at her school and caught the attention of boxing coach Pardum Boro. Boro selected her for boxing and began training in 2012. Later, she came under the guidance of head women’s coach Shiv Singh. Despite her father’s financial difficulties, he did his best to support Lovlina in pursuing a boxing career.

Lovlina’s father Tiken was a small businessman. Her mother’s name is Mamoni Borgohain. She has two twin sisters named Licha and Lima. They are all taekwondo athletes and have competed at the national level. However, they are not pursuing competition beyond the national level.
Profession
Lovlina began her boxing career in her early teens. In 2017, she won a bronze medal at the Asian Boxing Championships in Vietnam. Next, she won a bronze medal at the Presidents Cup in Astana in June 2017. In February 2018, she won the welterweight gold medal at the International Boxing Championship India Open. The medal qualified her for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
In the same year, she won a silver medal at the Ulaanbaatar Cup in Mongolia and a bronze medal at the 13th International Silesian Championships in Poland.
Lovelina represented India at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, held for the first time in New Delhi in November 2018, and won a bronze medal in the welterweight (69kg) category.
In 2019, she was selected for the 2019 Women’s World Boxing Championships in Ulan-Ude, Russia, and won a bronze medal.
The following year, she won a bronze medal at the 2020 Asia and Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualifications and qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She was defeated by Turkish boxer Busenaz Sumenelli at the Tokyo Olympics on August 4, 2021, and eventually won the bronze medal.
On March 26, 2023, she defeated Australian boxer Caitlin Parker 5-2 in the 75 kg category at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships (2023) in New Delhi, India, and won her first world championship gold medal.

I was well prepared for that game, both technically and physically. When I lose a game, I get mentally exhausted. Later I discovered that physical fitness is not the most important thing. There’s a lot of pressure that comes with competing in big tournaments, and I started to realize the mental aspect of the sport. I started meditating to improve my psychology and it also helped me strategize between games. I started behaving better after that. “
