Salman Fayyaz Ghani is a three-star Pakistani general who served as the Lahore Corps Commander from 2022 to 2023. He made headlines in May 2023 after he was relieved of his post as corps commander after mobs attacked his official residence in Lahore.

After completing his formal education, Salman applied to join the Pakistan Army as an officer and attended the 79th Long Course of the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Abbottabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, where he received Two years of military training.

Salman Fayyaz Ghani was commissioned as Second Lieutenant of 10th Battalion, Frontier Force Regiment (FFR) after completing his training module at PMA. As he rose through the ranks, Ghani held several positions, including company commander, commanding officer (CO) and brigade commander. As a Brigadier General, he served as the Principal of the Infantry and Tactics School in Quetta. In February 2017, Salman Ghani was promoted to major general and subsequently appointed as the Commanding Officer (GOC) of the 23rd Infantry Division in the Jhelum District of Punjab Province, Pakistan.

In November 2020, Ghani was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general. Later, he was posted to General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi, as Inspector General (IG) (Arms). In October 2022, he was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief (GOC) of the IV Corps, also known as the Lahore Corps.

On May 9, 2023, during political protests in Pakistan in support of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, a mob broke into his official residence, the Regiment Commander’s Residence (formerly known as Jinnah Palace) and vandalized it. According to sources, Ghani received orders from Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir to shoot at protesters if they tried to enter the Lahore military camp; however, Ghani refused to shoot at unarmed civilians shot. In a video uploaded on social media, Ghani can be seen trying to calm down protesters as they stormed his house.

Ghani was removed as Corps Commander on May 12, 2023 and was replaced by Lieutenant General Fayaz Hussain Shah. Sources said Ghani was removed from his post for disobeying direct orders from Gen. Asim Munir. After his removal, he was posted to the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi as Inspector General (IG) (Arms).
