Luke Grimes Says He Wants to 'Look Good with My Shirt Off' at 40 — But Working Out Is 'More About the Mental Aspect'

Luke Grimes says it’s hard to stay a Hollywood heartthrob – but that’s not why he’s committed to the gym.

The Yellowstone the actor, 40, revealed Men’s health to figure out how to stay in perfect physical and mental health while commuting.

“Gyms for me are more about the mental aspect than worrying about looking good shirtless or anything,” Grimes said. “Sure, I’d like to look good shirtless, but we all would.”

Grimes explained: “If I go a couple of weeks without working out, I start to get really dark. So I have to – I just have to. I’m 40 now, so I know I have to do it.”

When he commutes, Grimes only has a few hours in each city before he has to get back on the bus.

He has been touring the country following the release of his debut country album earlier this year.

In addition to trying to stay active by exercising, Grimes admitted that it can be “hard to eat right” while on the road.

“It’s a whole new process that I’m still learning,” he said Men’s health. “I will say, whenever I have a show and go to a new city, my first thing is always ‘I’ve got to get a routine.’ That’s what really helps me. Very quickly I try to find a few places where I like to eat and where I feel comfortable. I find a gym and really embrace the routine from day one.”

The actor said it’s “much easier to be unhealthy” given the demands of modern life.

In addition to exercise, Grimes has found that self-help books and therapy are key to maintaining a positive mindset.

Yellowstone just aired its series finale on December 15th after five seasons. Grimes also spoke with Men’s health about the Paramount Network series and his on-screen father Kevin Costner’s early exit from it.

“I haven’t spoken to him since [he left]” Grimes said. “There’s no anger or anything like that. It’s just—he’s Kevin Costner.”

He added yes Men’s health of Costner, “He’s a big deal. I just don’t feel like it’s up to me to reach out. He can come to me if he wants to.”
