The Bluey Movie Is Coming! All the Details We Know (So Far) About the Beloved Dog’s Big-Screen Debut

Bluey is getting ready for an adventure on the big screen!

Based on Australia’s favorite animated preschool series, the first ever Bluey the animated film is officially in the works. The film will be produced by Ludo Studio, BBC Studios and Walt Disney Company, and will be shown in cinemas worldwide in 2027.

While details are being kept under wraps, Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack will reprise their roles as Bluey’s mum, Chilli, and dad, Bandit, with original creator Joe Brumm to helm the project as writer and director.

In a Dec. 17 press release announcing the project, Brumm said he “always thought ‘Bluey’ deserved a theatrical film,” and was looking forward to giving the beloved dog a bigger story.

“I really enjoyed the experience of working with the longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going forward with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that,” he said. “I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together.”

In addition to his own movie, Bluey is headed to Disney as the company announced on Dec. 19 that it is adding the character to theme parks and the Disney Cruise Line, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Although specific plot details have not been revealed, the press release states that the film will deliver “the same charm and humor that made the television series a global phenomenon.”

“The film will continue the adventures of Bluey, a lovable, inexhaustible, blue puppy who lives with his mom, dad and little sister Bingo,” the statement said.

The last season ended with a shocker: the creators dropped an unexpected episode called “Surprise” after announcing “The Sign”, which was originally announced as the finale.

“Sign” — which was four times longer than average Bluey episode — was an emotional rollercoaster as Bandit received a job offer that would require the family to move out of their home in Brisbane, leaving the rest of the Heelers struggling to process the news.

In the final moments, however, Bandit tore down the “For Sale” sign outside their house, signaling that the Heelers were staying put, culminating in a heartfelt family hug.

Meanwhile, “Surprise” offered a glimpse into Bluey’s future. It ended with a visit from a grown-up Bluey (and her future child!) returning home to visit her parents in the same house on the hill where she grew up.

The film version will feature some familiar voices, as Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack will reprise their roles as Bluey’s parents, Chilli and Bandit.

Following the film’s announcement, Zanetti posted a photo of herself sitting next to McCormack on Instagram with the caption: “Who’s excited for the @officialblueytv movie?! 🧡💙 (You guys, I’m so excited!).”

The voice of Bluey herself has always been anonymous, so it is unclear who will voice the dog in the film. However, Geraldine Hakewill voiced the adult Bluey in “Surprise”.
