Lupita Nyong’o thanks her fans for their support amid her breakup.
The actress, 40, shared a series of posts on her Instagram Story on Saturday expressing her gratitude to those who reached out to her after revealing earlier this week that she and ex-boyfriend Selema Masekela had decided to go their separate ways.
“Thank you for all the kindness I received when I shared my sad news,” Nyong’o began. “Words of encouragement mean more to me than I expected. They are a balm.”
“And it’s comforting to have a little corner of the internet for the romantically broken hearted to gather,” he said Black Panther: Wakanda Forever the star continued.
Then noting that her followers “shared resources that helped you get through the pain” — including “songs, songs, books, quotes” — Nyong’o asked them to “keep doing it,” as she revealed some quotes that resonate with her, including one from Ava DuVernay.

Lupita Nyong’o announces split from Selema Masekela in message about ‘pain’ of recent ‘fraud’
Nyong’o announced on social media earlier this week that she was separating from Masekela, a TV presenter and sports commentator.
In a lengthy note, the Oscar winner began by acknowledging that “there are much more important things going on in the world right now and my thoughts are with those who are suffering deeply,” before saying, “At this time it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly distance myself. from someone I can no longer trust.”
Nyong’o noted at the time that she found herself “in a season of heartbreak over a love that was suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by fraud.”

She continued her statement, noting that she felt the urge to “run into the shadows and hide” amid heartbreak, but said, “I remind myself that the amount of pain I feel is equal to the measure of my capacity for love.. And so, I choose to face the hurts, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass.”
Nyong’o then wrote that she shared the personal news “to keep it 💯, and hoping that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else who is experiencing the grip of a broken heart and who is willing to try to escape the pain and failure to discover the wisdom that it stems from that. #Breakup.”
“Let us face our pain so as not to spread it,” concluded the message, in which Nyong’o never mentioned Masekela by name.

Nyong’o and Masekela publicly confirmed their relationship with an Instagram post in December 2022, although it is unclear when their relationship began.
Back in August, Nyong’o celebrated Masekela’s birthday, calling him “Sunny Man ☀️” on social media. At the time, Masekela responded in the comments section, calling himself “the luckiest man alive”.

Nyong’o announced her split a day after she was seen at a Janelle Monáe concert with friends and Joshua Jackson, whose wife Jodie Turner-Smith recently filed for divorce.
Photos previously released by TMZ show the pair standing close to each other in the audience, although they did not appear to kiss each other.
A representative for Masekela did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s previous request for comment, nor did a representative for Nyong’o.
