Machine Gun Kelly shares how his 15-year-old daughter helped him make the decision to get sober.
The rapper, born Colson Baker, 34, appeared on the Sunday, August 18, episode A game worth a million dollars podcast and shared that he was prompted to get sober after a conversation he had with his daughter Casie.
“It started with my daughter saying, ‘Dad, you know I know when you’re high?’ It broke my heart,” Kelly said on the podcast. “It was extremely disappointing.”

Kelly went on to say that his daughter was only 11 or 12 at the time.
“It took me a while after that, because obviously drugs keep you under control,” he continued. “That was the first step for me. As a father and as a man, to be the father I wish my dad had been, I have to break this generational curse for my child.”
Earlier this month, Kelly said he’s been sober for a year during an appearance on the Bunnie Xo podcast Stupid blonde. Musician opened up about dealing with mental health and alcohol abuse, revealing in the episode that he’s “completely sober from everything.”
“I don’t drink anymore. I haven’t since last August,” he said. “That’s when I went to rehab for the first time.”
MGK then revealed that he had previously abused alcohol, marijuana and pills.
In July, Kelly gave a rare glimpse into his life as a father as he marked his daughter’s 15th birthday with a sweet birthday tribute on his Instagram.
In the first photo, dad and daughter can be seen posing together under a giant pink heart-shaped balloon arch, complete with pink balloon letters spelling out “HBD Casie.”
“The world spins, but when I look at you it stops. Happy 15th princess 👑 🥰🥹,” the proud dad captioned his post.
The musician shared a few more photos from throughout Casie’s life, including some adorable memories of a much younger Casie fixing her dad’s mohawk and playing her dad’s guitar.
In recent footage, the teenage girl and her father were watching a basketball game, relaxing on the beach and riding a motorcycle.
