Maciej Nowitzki

Maciej Nowicki (1910-1950) was an architect from Poland. He served as chief architect of the city of Chandigarh, India. On September 1, 1950, at the age of 40, he died in a plane crash.

Matthew “Maciej” Nowitzki was born on Sunday, June 26, 1910, in Chita, Siberia (age 40 at the time of death). He grew up in the Polish cities of Krakow and Warsaw, where he completed his formal education. . Leaving Poland in the fall of 1945 (Novich served as cultural attaché in Chicago), the family eventually settled in New York. In 1936, Masif graduated from the Warsaw Polytechnic. In 1950, Nowitzki and American architect Albert Mayer began planning Chandigarh, the new capital of the Indian states of Punjab and Haryana.
