Madhabi Puri is an Indian banker best known for being the first woman to be appointed chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) in 2022.

Madhabi Puri Buch was born in Mumbai on Tuesday, January 12, 1965 (age 56; as of 2021). Her zodiac sign is Capricorn. She attended the Bombay Fort Convent from 1971 to 1976 and the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Delhi from 1976 to 1983. From 1983 to 1986, she pursued her bachelor’s degree at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. She then pursued her MBA from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. Madhabi started her career in 1989 as a Project Financial Analyst with ICICI Bank and worked there till 1992. In 1993, she left ICICI Bank and worked as a lecturer at West Cheshire College, UK, from 1993 to 1995. He has served as executive director since 2006. While with ICICI Bank, she held various positions including Head of Marketing and Sales, Head of Product Development, Head of Operations and Head of Brand Marketing. In 2016, she founded Singapore-based Agora Advisory Pvt. Later, in 2016, she served as Head of Business Development at Great Pacific Capital in Singapore and as a consultant at Shanghai New Development Bank. Madhabi served as a full-time member of Sebi from 2017 to October 4, 2021, after which he became Sebi Chairman. She has also served as a non-executive director of Zensar Technologies, InnoVen Capital India Pvt. Ltd, Idea Cellular Ltd, Max Healthcare and Gabelhorn Investments Pte. Ltd.

- Madhabi is the first non-IAS person to be appointed Chairman of SEBI.
- In an interview, she described herself this way, saying that when she was studying in Class 12, she used to wear big glasses and was a bookworm.
- After completing her studies, Madabi applied to study economics at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, but she was unable to attend the admission interview due to jaundice. Later, she signed up for a math interview at the same university, during which she had an IV in one hand.
- According to Madabi, she was inspired by the works of Walt Disney and Kiran Bedi.

I have a very simple formula that I think works everywhere: You just have to deliver.
