Maithili Thakur was born on 25 July 2000 (age 18 in 2018) in Benipati, Madhubani, Bihar. Her zodiac sign is Leo.

She began studying music with her grandfather at the age of four. She often noticed her grandfather singing and tried to match her notes to his. Maithili received her fifth level school education at home as the school was far away from her residence. She then moved with her family to Delhi, where her father was a music teacher. Maithili completed her high school education from Bal Bhavan International School, Delhi. When her father learned about Maithili’s desire to sing, he began giving her music lessons. In 2011, Thakur auditioned for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs but was rejected. Subsequently, she participated in many singing reality shows, but was eliminated after reaching the top 20. This happened six times until she was selected as a contestant on Colors TV’s “Rising Star.” In 2017, she participated in the “Rising Star” program and won the first runner-up of the program.
