Malcolm Scates News

One of the most famous faces on television, Susan Cookson, may soon leave Emmerdale. Surprisingly, the soap actress has been in Hollyoaks, Doctors, two episodes of Coronation Street, and four different Dales characters. Susan is currently dazzling our screens as Wendy Posner, the mother of Victoria Sugden’s rapist Lee. Susan is well remembered for her role as the beloved Casualty doctor Maggie Coldwell from 2005 to 2009.

When Wendy first arrived in the village in July 2019 and began pestering Victoria, claiming she was lying about her horrific trauma at the hands of her son, she was despised by practically everyone in the community.

But in recent months, after finally acknowledging that her son was a rapist and growing closer to Victoria and her grandson, she has undergone something of a character change.

Given that she has played four different characters in the last 20 years, Susan has really appeared in the village before. After that, DI Judy Dove played a far more significant position in the police, appearing in seven episodes from December 2002 to January 2003.

As Callum Logan’s mother in Corrie in 2015, Susan appears to be the go-to actress for portraying loving mothers who slavishly support their bad kids.

Again, this wasn’t Susan’s first time working on Corrie; she had starred in two episodes as Mrs. Briscoe in 1998, and she later made a comeback as Marion Logan in 2001.

When her son Callum disappeared, Marion was upset. She also got into a fight with the Platts while attempting to take her grandson Max with her and spend time with Sarah’s infant Harry. However, a different actress assumed the role when Marion made her comeback in 2019 following a three-year sabbatical.

Kelly Peers, who starred in The Bill, played Max’s grandma, and no official explanation for Susan’s absence was provided. She is currently a full-time cast member, thus it is presumed that her responsibilities to Emmerdale prevented her from returning.

Outside of the spotlight, Susan was married to fellow actor Malcolm Scates, who is well-known to many fans because he has appeared in a large number of British TV productions. While residing in Sheffield, the couple married in 1993 and had two children: Ruari and Dan.

Susan would have to travel the 174 miles to Bristol to film the BBC medical drama and be away from her family during her time on Casualty. It has happened that I’ve had to tell my kids, ‘I won’t be here in the morning,’ she said in an interview with The Daily Record in 2008. Tonight I have to return to Bristol. They say, “I don’t want,” as tears fill their eyes.
