On November 23, 2023, Malti Devi was found hanging from a hook on the roof of her in-laws’ residence in Kalijagadishpur village in Sant Kabir Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Police found her body and it was taken to hospital for an autopsy. Malti’s father filed an FIR against her husband Vishnuraj and three relatives at Mahuli police station. He alleged that Malti was killed by her in-laws as they used to harass her over dowry issues. He also alleged that Malti’s husband Vishnuraj had an affair with a woman named Radhika and when Malti turned against him, he (Vishnuraj) murdered her.

During her lifetime, she had disputes with her husband over dowry and extramarital affairs. In one of her videos, Malti revealed that her husband Vishnuraj used to beat her. On November 11, 2023, she uploaded a video on her channel in which she said that Vishnuraj defamed her for having an affair with a man named Arjun. She also talked about taking her own life in the video. In another video, she revealed that Vishnuraj and some of his friends conspired and cheated her to take away all her jewellery. She also mentioned that Vishnuraj had issued multiple death threats to her.
