Mama June’s ‘Stronger’ Mentality Causes Rift with Husband Justin as They Move Closer to Anna amid Her Cancer Journey

Mom June Shannon isn’t afraid to make a decision about her relationship — even if it can sometimes frustrate her husband Justin Stroud.

In the episode from Friday Mama June: Family crisiscouple began visiting homes in Georgia in an effort to get closer to her daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell amid her stage 4 cancer diagnosis.

“I really hope this house works because I wanted to move since yesterday,” she explained in the confessional on June 44. “Closer to everyone, especially Anna because she’s really sick right now. It’s like you want to be there no matter what.”

As the couple toured the potential home, Justin noted that the property was clean and the closets were a nice size before pointing out an obvious problem. When he noticed that the bathroom mirror was missing above the sink, June declared, “Beggars can’t be choosers.”

She went on to say how close the house was to Anna and suggested the couple just “bite the bullet” and sign a lease to take care of her daughter.

Moments later, June revealed that she had called the landlord of their house in Alabama and canceled their lease. Justin was shocked by her confession and pointed out that the couple now only have a few days to find a home and move out.

“You don’t just make decisions about which house we live in, June,” he snapped at her. “When were you really going to tell me this?”

When Justin said he was “hoping we could take a look around,” he was met with silence. Then he interjected, “Looks like my opinion doesn’t matter, period. You make your own decisions about houses.”

Speaking to the cameras, June explained why she likes to make her own decisions.

“Justin always thinks I’m ballsy or that I like to wear pants or that I don’t want anyone’s opinion, but that’s not it,” she said. “I’m used to men that I’ve been in relationships with, that have my fucking credit cards, beat me to death, tell me hey, I can’t talk unless I’ve talked[n] and now I don’t have to do it.”

She added: “I have an opinion because I don’t care if you like it or not. I’m going to have it because I’ve got my voice back and I’m stronger than I was.”

Despite being unsatisfied with the first house they toured, June and Justin signed a new lease on the house. While meeting his mother, Roxanne aka Mama Dukes, for breakfast, Justin asked his wife to be more considerate in the decision-making process.

“She has to learn that she is no longer free,” he added.

During that same outing, the trio talked about the possibility of June and Justin taking custody of Anna’s oldest child if she died of cancer and the difficulty of bringing up the subject.

“[With] everything that’s going on with Anna, maybe it’s a real possibility that we end up raising Kaitlyn,” June told Justin in the shared confessional, and he replied, “You know I’m going to be here doing what I need to do to raise that little girl, but she has to get the papers and do it legal.”

June pointed out that taking away “rights” to a child “isn’t the easiest fucking thing” and told Justin and Roxanne that the custody order was probably a “tough pill to swallow” for Anna.

“At that point, it will become real to her,” she explained. “She’s not going to be able to see her graduation, she’s not this. She’s not going to see her turn 18, like that’s her realization like, ‘F—, this is true. This is my destination.'”
