Mamukkoya (1946-2023) was an Indian actor who appeared mainly in Malayalam films. He has appeared in more than 450 Malayalam films, mainly in comedy roles. He was the first person to win the National Award for Best Comedian in Malayalam Film. On April 24, 2023, he suffered a heart attack and died of cerebral hemorrhage two days later.

Mamukkoya (also spelled Mamukoya) also known as Mamukka, was born on Friday 5 July 1946 in Palikandi, Malabar District, Madras District, British India (now Kozhikode, Kerala, India) ( Now 76 years old). His zodiac sign is Cancer. In Kerala, he studied at Palikandi Primary School, GVHSS Kutichla High School and MM High School Kozhikode. While in school, he appeared in various stage plays. After completing his studies, he started working in a lumber yard in Karaj. He worked in a lumberyard during the day and performed in stage plays and nukkad natak at night. He also sold mud, moringa leaves and wooden sticks. Later, he joined a cultural troupe called “Sehgal Art Production”.

He died of cerebral hemorrhage on April 26, 2023. Earlier, on April 24, 2023, he suffered a heart attack while inaugurating the Wandoor Sevens tournament in Malappuram, Kerala. He was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala. Two days later, however, his health began to deteriorate and he died of a cerebral haemorrhage. After his death, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his grief through his Twitter account. He tweeted,

  • In an interview, he revealed that he was born in a poor family. On the wedding day, he didn’t even wear shoes. He borrowed shoes from a friend for the wedding.
  • He had good relations with Vaikom Muhammad Basheer (writer), SK Pottekkatt (writer) and MS Baburaj (music composer).
  • In the post-Babri Masjid demolition phase, some Congress leaders asked him to contest for one of their candidates in the local body elections from Wayanad in Kerala. He agreed and when he was invited to the stage to promote the Congress candidate, instead of supporting the candidate, he urged people not to vote for the Congress as the demolition of the Babri Masjid was their government’s decision. Congress leaders were shocked to see his reaction. Mamukoya then said he could not lie to others and would do whatever he thought was right. According to reports, after the incident, no political party invited him to campaign for them.
  • Mamukkoya used to support various social activities. He spoke about unity and harmony among communities at various events. He has questioned the concepts of “haram” and “halal” in Islam. He said photography is considered haram in Islam but becomes halal when a passport is required to visit the holy site of hajj.
