A few days later, he was discovered by the police, who were confused by the trail of blood around his kitchen and bedroom.

The officers then determined that the frozen hamburgers were behind the tragedy when they noticed them on the kitchen counter.

A knife and tea towel were also found nearby and the bottom drawer of the freezer was open.

An inquest was told that Barry died of a stab wound at his home in Powys, Wales.

The court heard he lived alone in supported housing and was a “very private man”.

Police attended his home in July last year due to concerns that Barry had not been seen for more than a week.

He was found dead on the bed with blood in the hallway, bathroom and bedroom.

The court concluded that there were no signs of disturbance and that his wallet, computer and phone were not missing.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Vaughan said he was satisfied Barry’s death was not a suicide but “more of an unexplained death”.

There was also no indication that he had been assaulted, the inquest was told.

County Coroner Patricia Morgan concluded that Barry, who had limited use of one arm after a stroke, most likely died from an accident while preparing frozen food for a cookout.

She told the inquest: “I appreciate the evidence which is difficult to hear and traumatic.
